One of the most popular musical groups during the 1970′s, the Spinners’ first Top 10 and million-selling hit single, “I’ll Be Around,” was actually the B-side of the track “How Could I Let You Get Away.” In 1972, the group released the album “The Spinners” and immediately found success with the hits “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” “One of a Kind (Love Affair)” and “Ghetto Child.” Cementing their popularity, the group’s 1974 album “Mighty Love” featured three Top 20 singles including “I’m Coming Home,” “Love Don’t Love Nobody” and the title track. Their collaboration with Dionne Warwick on “Then Came You” was the group’s biggest success of the year, hitting number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and the top three on the R&B and Easy Listening charts.
Other hits during the late 1970′s and early 1980′s include “They Just Can’t Stop it the (Games People Play,” “The Rubberband Man” and “Working My Way Back to You.” On August 8, 1980, the eight-lettered name group hit number eight on the charts with the eight-worded medley “Cupid/I’ve Loved You for Long Time.” The Spinners saw chart success again in 2003 when a remix of “Are You Ready for Love” reached number one on the singles charts.
