World-Class Erotic Art Collection for the Las Vegas Erotic Heritage Museum
The Aphrodite Collection
Public Unveiling and Fundraiser July 9th, 2011 7PM-11PM
The Exodus Trust announces a private anonymous, magnificent gift to be presented at the Erotic Heritage Museum. A team of erotic art experts is working with the staff of the museum to get the collection ready for the grand opening fundraiser and celebration on July 9th.
Tickets for the opening event will be $25 and will include a special reception, refreshments, raffles, gifts and an opportunity to meet the many people responsible in presenting this great collection.
This is the first showing of what Museum Curator, Dr. Ted McIlvenna, says is the most significant private collection he has ever seen. Ted says, “The Aphrodite Collection is one man’s statement of what he has seen in his lifetime as a constant celebration of the images of sex. The collection is a statement of a man with a great erotic eye.”
Dr. Rand McIlvenna, Museum Media Director and the person responsible for the packing and the long delivery drive across the country in a truck carrying over 3000 precious erotic items says, “I was amazed by the quality and variety of the art pieces. The bronze pieces, as well as, the incredible walking cane collection of ivories are magnificent.”
Here is what the other museum staff says about the collection, each from their own unique perspective:
“This collection truly celebrates and explores the female form in its entirety with an amazing attention to detail. It’s rare that you find such a complete collection with one central focus.” Dorian Gomez, Art Director and Resident Curator
“The broad range of topics found in the new collection, including many educational books, will benefit the museum and the community, increasing our resources and improving our ability for people to expand their sexual knowledge.” Dr. Amanda Morgan, Event Coordinator and Director of Sexological Education
“This collection shows so much passion for the female form and erotica!! There are so many books on adult cinema and its stars. The historical art and the fine art bronzes are amazing. I really enjoy the kitschy part of the collection – it represents how we as a culture deal with sexuality – mostly by making fun of it!”
Jane Hamilton/Veronica Hart, Associate Curator of Erotic Folklore and Director of New Media
“Serious inquiry not only into the mind of the collector of this living encyclopedia of erotica, as well as the exploration of eros in multiple forms, can be found for the sexual and historical researcher in this show. Highly recommended.” Dr. Victoria R. Austin, Associate Director of Academics and Continuing Education
And finally, summed up by a museum library volunteer who said, “What an erotic adventure. I just want to look and learn.”
Now is an opportunity for the people of Las Vegas to join with erotic art enthusiasts from around the country to work together to make the museum one we all can be proud of. A museum that has something for everyone and everybody’s sexual interest and a place for scholars, art experts and just plain people who like sex to get together around a common interest.
