Binion’s Poker Classic Still going strong in its fifth year
Binion’s Gambling Hall, the progenitor of high-stakes poker tournaments as we know them today, will turn the page on the fifth year of its newest tradition, the Binion’s Poker Classic, starting on May 30 and running through July 11. Since its inception, the Binion’s Poker Classic has been designed to give poker players what they want. Player feedback has driven the evolution of the tournament to where it currently stands – deeper stacks, more specialty events, and reasonable buy-ins.
“Our poker players are happy with the way we have developed the Classic with things like the improved structure and longer levels,” said Paul Campbell, Binion’s tournament director. “So with the tournament itself in good shape, this year we are adding value in other ways with a very good hotel rate at the Four Queens and a twenty-five dollar live play promotion.”
The Four Queens Hotel and Casino, Binion’s sister property, is offering all Poker Classic participants a $24 midweek rate and a $52 rate on the weekends. In addition, players with a receipt from any Binion’s Poker Classic event will be given $25 in chips after one hour of live play in Binion’s Hall of Fame Poker Room. The receipt is good one time and must be used within 48 hours of the tournament event.
From the first event on May 30 to the last on July 11, Binion’s will seat players for 43 different games, with five No Limit Hold’em events and two specialty events each week throughout the tournament. The specialty events include H.O.R.S.E, PLO 8 and Limit Omaha 8. The Main Event will take place over two days starting June 30, and has the highest buy-in of the Poker Classic at $1,000. Some events are as little as $100 buy-ins, while most fall within $150-$200 range.
Generally, the buy-ins at the Binion’s Poker Classic are about one-tenth of the World Series of Poker events. To participate in any of the Binion’s Poker Classic events, players register the day of the event in which they would like to play. Registration opens two hours prior to the start time. For the special room rate at the Four Queens, reservations may be made in advance by calling 800-634-6045. Players will need to show their receipt from a Binion’s Poker Classic event to receive the special rate. Players must be 21 or older in order to participate.
