Following a triumphant summer European tour, Metallica will return to rock North America this fall for the second leg of its “World Magnetic Tour.” The multi-platinum hard-rock band will perform later this year throughout the United States and Canada and will include a stop at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Saturday, Dec. 5. The concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The tour is in support of the band’s platinum-selling 10th studio album, Death Magnetic, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart in September 2008. Death Magnetic, Metallica’s first studio album since the 2003 release of the multi-platinum album St. Anger, has sold nearly 1.7 million copies in the United States and spawned three hit singles including “The Day That Never Comes,” “My Apocalypse” and the current “Cyanide.” The band won two Grammy Awards in February for Best Metal Performance (“My Apocalypse”) and Best Recording Package.

In October 2008, Metallica launched its first tour in the United States and Canada in four years and earned rapturous reviews. The Los Angeles Times raved that the two-hour set “unleashed the powerful exchange of energies that defines Metallica’s purpose and its appeal.” The New York Post noted that “James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich destroyed any notion that their old bones are ready for the museum by sticking to the three V’s of metal music – volume, velocity, and virtuosity.” The Mandalay Bay performance will be Metallica’s first in Las Vegas in five years.

Last week, Activision released the highly anticipated video game Guitar Hero Metallica, which features 28 songs from the band’s nearly 30-year career. Metallica also will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum which honors legendary rock ‘n’ roll performers, a ceremony scheduled to take place Saturday, April 4 in Cleveland.
