Suncoast Las Vegas Goes Back To The ’80s This Summer With The Whip Its and Loveshack

Celebrating the nostalgia and new wave nature of the ’80s music scene, Suncoast Hotel and Casino has added two “totally rad” and popular local bands to the entertainment lineup for the summer—The Whip Its and Loveshack.

Performing ’80s hits such as Blondie’s “One Way Or Another” and Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl,” The Whip Its have made a name for themselves in Las Vegas with their blend music and witty narrative. The group is made up of a unique ensemble of performers including vocal duo Dieter (inspired by “Sprockets” on Saturday Night Live) and Ivana Hump, a Euro dominatrix that commands the stage (and the attention of the audience) with a whip and leather ensemble. Completing the retro vibe, the singers are backed by a full band dressed as “Devo drones.”

Formed in 1995, in demand ’80s tribute band Loveshack brings their high-energy act to the Suncoast. Singing all of the great ’80s tunes by Human League, The Go Go’s, Madonna, Duran Duran, Soft Cell and New Order. Having performed in many hotel casinos on the Strip, Loveshack has been recognized by the readers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal and their “Best of Las Vegas” list, voted “Best Band” by the readers of Las Vegas City Life and voted “Favorite Band” by readers of What’s On. The five-member group takes on physical and costumed characteristics of recognizable ’80s singers such as Devo, Adam Ant, Slash, Madonna and Mike D. from the Beastie Boys, offering a visual and musical representation of the decade.

Beginning July 9, The Whip Its will perform every Friday and Loveshack will perform every Saturday from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Suncoast Lounge. Starting August 4 and throughout the remainder of the summer, both groups move poolside from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., The Whip Its on Friday and Loveshack on Saturday.

Admission is free and guests must be 21 or older to attend. For further information call 702.636.7111.

Once called “The premier voice of the 20th century” by the London Times, Humperdinck first hit the charts with his smash hit “Release Me (And Let Me Love Again),” which went to No. 1 in 11 countries. The next decade brought such hits as “After the Lovin’,” “Winter World of Love,” “Am I That Easy To Forget,” “There Goes My Everything,” “This Moment In Time,” and “A Man Without Love.”

Clint Holmes Returns To The Suncoast Las Vegas Showroom July 10-11

Singing sensation Clint Holmes brings his powerful voice and magnetic stage presence back to the Suncoast Showroom July 10 and 11.

Holmes’ fans know him as more than just a singer. He’s famous for making every performance an original and captivating audiences with his charisma and signature style. Among his many recordings is the Top 10 smash hit “Playground In My Mind (My Name Is Michael).” His album Edges produced many other standout songs, including “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” the romantic “Shouldn’t It Be Easy By Now,” the playful “Gotta Get Up” and the thought-provoking “Let My Son See Africa.”

With a long history of entertaining audiences in Las Vegas, Clint is known for his six-year run in Clint Holmes at Harrah’s. Named Las Vegas’ “Best Singer” for four times and “Entertainer of the Year” three times by readers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Holmes’ fame stretches far beyond Southern Nevada. He was also Atlantic City’s “Entertainer of the Year” three times, and starred in Clint Holmes’ Sophisticated Rhythms, a dynamic stage show that traveled through music from the 1940s to the present.

His 1996 critically acclaimed musical Comfortable Shoes, which opened in New Jersey, was a poignant and uplifting journey into Holmes’ interracial family’s struggle to find its identity. In 2002, an updated version of the musical opened at The Royal George Theatre in Chicago. Among the show’s rave reviews, the Chicago Tribune called it “a night of fully realized theatrical entertainment.” Holmes also continues to partner with long-time friends Susan Anton, Domenick Allen and Martin Nievera for a showcase of solo performances, duets and group numbers as the wildly popular Vocal Soup.

In a career that began with an invitation from Joan Rivers to be her sidekick and announcer on The Late Show, Clint Holmes has proven himself as a well-respected performer, even earning the honor of being the featured performer at the Democratic National Convention on the evening of Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential nomination. Also familiar to fans’ ears, Holmes was the voice of Lowenbrau Beer for four years.

The Scintas, Buffalo, New York-raised brothers Joey and Frankie, sister Chrissi and “Irish Scinta” Peter O’Donnell, entertain, surprise and provide an anything-but-typical performance filled with music, comedy and impersonations. B.B. King, The King of Blues, has released more than 50 albums over the course of his career, many of them classics. King was born as Riley B. King in 1925 in Itta Bena, Miss. (currently home to a B.B. King’s Blues Club), where he would perform on street corners for dimes. King moved to Memphis, Tenn. in 1947 and started making a name for himself shortly thereafter on WDIA radio. It was with this station that he developed the more catchy radio name – first Beale Street Blues Boy then shortened to Blues Boy King and eventually to what he is now knows as, B.B. King. In the mid-’50s, King performed at a dance in Arkansas, where two men got in a fight over a woman and set the building on fire. Upon realizing his guitar was still in the building, King raced inside to save his guitar which he aptly named Lucille after the girl the fight was over as a reminder to never fight over a woman. Since then, King’s entire trademark Gibson guitars have been named Lucille.

Shortly thereafter, he has his first No. 1 hit for the song “Three O’Clock Blues” and began an extensive national tour, amassing 342 one-night shows. His career took off from there and King has not looked back since. He has changed the face of blues, bringing it to the mainstream with hit songs, such as “The Thrill is Gone” “My Guitar Sings the Blues” and “Is You Is or Is You Ain’t My Baby?,” all of which he has also won Grammy Awards for. King has won numerous more Grammy’s and has been inducted into both the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At 84 years old, he has yet to take a break, still touring where he performs more than 200 days of the year.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with opening act PJ Barth Band taking the stage at 6 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Guests will be able to order dinner until 8:45 p.m. and B.B. will take the stage at 9:30 p.m. A limited menu exclusive of ticket prices will be offered the night of the show and features a variety of four-course dinner options.
