Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition At Luxor Commemorates 98th Anniversary Of RMS Titanic’s Sinking

Guests Invited to Share the Experience of Titanic’s Voyage and Passengers During Series of Events April 12-17.

Enter into a journey of life on board Titanic’s maiden voyage and experience the tragic series of events that unfolded in the icy waters of the North Atlantic in 1912. Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition invites guests to see the artifacts, hear the stories, walk the deck, feel the iceberg and share the experience through a series of events April 12 – 17. Visiting guests can enjoy complimentary guided tours, specialty drinks, a survivor’s party, high tea and the chance to win a grand prize package. Guests can also pay tribute to Titanic’s passengers by sharing condolences and laying flowers at the Memorial Wall where the names of all 2,228 passengers and crew are displayed.

“The story of Titanic and her maiden voyage is one that continues to resonate with audiences around the world,” states Katherine Morgenstern, Vice President of Public Relations, Premier Exhibitions, Inc. “Honoring the legacy of Titanic on the anniversary of the sinking is just one more way for each of us to celebrate the Ship’s history and keep the memory alive for generations to come.”

Anniversary events at Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition include:

• April 12 – 15: Receive a more in-depth understanding of the Ship’s account and the passenger’s stories with complimentary guided tours at 5 and 8 p.m. with paid admission.

• April 13: Tacos & Tequila (T&T) offers a complimentary drink or appetizer to Exhibition guests who show their boarding pass.

The fate of those who survived and perished on April 15, 1912 became one of the most heartrending stories of all time. The “unsinkable” Titanic set sail on its maiden voyage carrying the dreams of thousands of passengers ranging from the social elite to the common worker, each one boarding the Ship for an exciting adventure without suspecting what was to come. Just four days after setting sail, Titanic struck the infamous iceberg puncturing the hull and flooding the lower compartments. It took only two hours and 40 minutes for Titanic to sink, with an estimated 1,500 passengers perishing in the tragedy.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at Luxor provides visitors with the opportunity to become a passenger as they move through expanded Exhibition galleries and view more than 20 never-before-seen authentic artifacts including gaming chips, passenger personal papers and decorative sections from Titanic’s famed Grand Staircase. Experience the Ship’s historical journey in chronological order: from the construction yards, her launch, first and third class room re-creations, the Promenade Deck, the Grand Staircase, the fated sinking, to modern day recovery efforts.

Tickets for Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition are $27 for adults, $20 for children, $25 for seniors and $24 with a Nevada ID. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with the last tickets being sold at 9 p.m.

Bodies… The Exhibition Shows Some Heart To Donors On National Donor Day – Organ Donors To Receive $10 Discount February 14

Valentine’s Day is a day to give sweethearts and loved ones gifts of chocolate and teddy bears, but it is also a day to give the most precious gift of all – the gift of life. As part of its ongoing effort to be one of Las Vegas’ premier sources of health and wellness information, BODIES… The Exhibition will show its love and appreciation to current organ donors by giving $10 off entrance to the Exhibition February 14.

According to OrganDonor.gov:

• Almost 95,000 people are in need of an organ for transplant

• Approximately 35,000 children and adults in our country have life-threatening blood diseases that could be treated by a marrow/blood stem cell or cord blood transplant

• Every two seconds someone in America needs blood, more than 39,000 units each day, according to the American Red Cross

There are several ways to be proactive and help people who are in desperate need of organ or tissue donation: fill out an organ and tissue donation card and register with the State Donor Registry, join the National Registry of potential volunteer marrow and blood stem cell donors, donate blood, and most simply, let family members know about the intention to be a donor.

Described as a “life-changing experience,” BODIES…The Exhibition is one of the most fascinating and educational experiences in Las Vegas. The real human bodies have been meticulously dissected, preserved through an innovative process and respectfully presented, giving visitors the opportunity to view the beauty and complexity of their own organs and systems like never before.

The $10 discount is only available February 14, 2010, and organ donors must present their ID with proof of donation to the Luxor box office when purchasing a ticket. Regularly priced tickets are $31 for adults, $29 for seniors and $23 for children 4 – 12 years of age. The Exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with last admission at 9 p.m. It is recommended that children 12 and under are accompanied by a teacher or parent as an adult guide.

The Stratosphere Las Vegas Hotel & Casino To Add World’s Highest “Skyjump” To Their Collection Of Thrills

SkyJump StratosphereThe Stratosphere Las Vegas Hotel & Casino today announced the addition of their next big thrill – SkyJump Las Vegas. What will undoubtedly become one of the top tourist attractions in North America, the skyjump is best described as a “controlled freefall.” Lucky adrenaline junkies and average Joes alike, will have the opportunity to plummet 855 feet at a scream-inducing speed of up to 40 mph – all while enjoying breathtaking views of the world famous Las Vegas Strip…if they can bear to keep their eyes open. SkyJump Las Vegas will offer a way to experience thrills similar to skydiving and base jumping – with the added benefit of doing it over the Las Vegas Strip – day or night. The attraction is expected to open April of 2010, and will join three thrill rides already atop the tower: Big Shot, X-Scream and Insanity.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring SkyJump Las Vegas to the Stratosphere,” said Frank Riolo, CEO of American Casino & Entertainment Properties. “This will not only be North America’s only skyjump, but also the highest skyjump in the world.”

Riders of SkyJump Las Vegas will be given a short safety lesson and then they will be suited up in Stratosphere’s custom “jump suits.” The rider is then connected to a patented high-speed “descender” machine and led to the edge of a small platform where they will leap out and descend the 100+ story height of Stratosphere. Guide wires keep riders from straying off course in what is an incredibly safe, yet audacious adventure. Just prior to reaching the rapidly approaching ground, the machine slows the rider down, bringing them to a controlled and safe landing.

“While the entire experience – from preparation to landing – takes just 30 minutes, the thrill will last a lifetime,” Riolo continued. “Stratosphere has made a commitment to reinvesting in our property at all levels and this will be an outstanding addition for everyone – whether you’re making the leap yourself or watching those daring enough to do it.”

The Stratosphere Hotel & Casino is located at 2000 Las Vegas Boulevard South. For more information, call 702-380-7777.

Authentic Coal From The RMS Titanic Makes Fun Last Minute Stocking Stuffer!

This is coal you WANT to find in your stocking this year! Whether a prince or a pauper, every history buff can have a memento of the RMS Titanic now available at the retail shop inside Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at Luxor. Come see the half million dollar, 55 pound piece of coal currently on display and if $500,000 is slightly out of the budget, pieces are available for $20 and $45. Take home a commemorative keepsake today that was part of the 5,892 tons of coal loaded onboard the Titanic when it left England almost a century ago.

Raised from the depths of the North Atlantic, coal is the only artifact salvaged from the Ship of Dreams that can be sold to the public. One hundred fifty-nine furnaces burned almost 700 tons of coal each day to drive the Ship’s three massive propellers. This extraordinary fuel source made the Titanic capable of 23 knots, which was a slightly slower speed for ships of the time but the engineering design provided Titanic with far more spacious, comfortable and luxurious accommodations.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition at Luxor provides visitors with the opportunity to become a passenger and feel the excitement of that April day as they move through expanded Exhibition galleries; view more than 20 never-before-seen authentic artifacts including gaming chips, passenger personal papers and decorative sections from Titanic’s famed Grand Staircase; and experience the Ship’s historical journey in chronological order: from the construction yards, to her maiden voyage, first and third class room re-creations, the Promenade Deck, the Grand Staircase, the fated sinking, to modern day recovery efforts.

Each piece of commemorative coal comes with a certificate of authenticity and is from the 1994 Titanic Research and Recovery Expedition. Object No. 94/0036 (this means it was the 36th object recovered during the 1994 expedition dive). Contact Amina Larara at alarara@prxi.com or 702.262.4505 to purchase.
