Norah Jones And Guest Corrine Bailey Rae To Perform At The Pearl At The Palms Sunday, August 22, 2010, 8:00 p.m.

Grammy award-winning powerhouses take over The Pearl Concert Theater inside Palms Casino Resort as Norah Jones and special guest Corrine Bailey Rae perform on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. This stop is part of Jones’ 2010 U.S. tour in support of The Fall (2009) and follows a string of festival performances including Bonnaroo in Tennessee, Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland.

The unique blend of jazz, vocal pop, bluesy country and contemporary folk, is what sets Norah Jones apart from other songstresses and has earned the vocalist and pianist multiple accolades.

In October of 2000, Norah Jones had decided to pursue music as a career and created a group which recorded a handful of demos for Blue Note Records. On the strength of those recordings, Jones signed to the jazz label in early 2001. While touring as part of Charlie Hunter’s group, Jones worked on her own material for her debut Come Away with Me. Released in early 2002, Come Away with Me garnered much public attention, eventually going multi-platinum, selling 18 million copies worldwide, and winning Jones eight Grammy awards.

In 2004, Jones released her highly anticipated follow-up album, Feels Like Home. Utilizing the same producer and using a similar approach to Come Away with Me, Jones’ method of mixing ’70s singer/songwriter-style tracks with blues, country and her own mellow take on piano jazz, led to success once again. Her third studio release, Not Too Late was released in 2007 and 2009 saw Jones’ return in a big way with the release of The Fall which reached #1 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart.

Corinne Bailey Rae, described as a neo-soul songstress, released her self-titled debut album in 2006 which included the heavily rotated single “Put Your Records On”. The album reached #4 on the Billboard 200 and earned Rae three Grammy nominations. Her sophomore release, The Sea (2010), is a personal album, heavily affected by the March 2008 death of Rae’s husband, Jason Rae (a saxophonist for the Haggis Horns). Upon its release, The Sea was the highest new entry in the U.K. charts and debuted at #7 on the Billboard Top 100.

The venue’s 900-capacity unique, in-the-round design will feature intimate performances by some of the biggest, as well as upcoming, names in music as part of Crown Theater’s offerings. Grandma Lee Returns To Bonkerz Comedy Club For The Entire Month Of May

Back by popular demand, “America’s Got Talent” finalist Grandma Lee is headlining at Bonkerz Comedy Club, uncensored and uncut, May 3 through May 29. The show is dark on Sundays.

Lee won the hearts of millions and made it all the way to the grand finale last season on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” making it her personal goal to help older people realize that it’s never too late to follow your dreams and laugh. Following the TV show, Lee appeared in “America’s Got Talent Live” hosted by Jerry Springer at Planet Hollywood. The sassy senior won the 2003 Las Vegas Comedy Festival at the MGM Grand and was chosen as a finalist for the 2004 season of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” In fact, she is so popular with TV audiences that “Last Comic Standing” had her on as a special guest during three different seasons and chose her as a Top 10 Favorite Comic on the show.

The Oklahoma native was ironically inspired to take up comedy after the death of her husband and a series of odd jobs such as news reporter and directory assistance operator. In 1995, Lee lost her husband of 37 years to cancer and decided to attend a local comedy workshop to get her laughing again. Since then, this outrageous 75-year-old grandmother has electrified audiences all over the country with her off-color humor and spunk. Lee asserts that 99 percent of her humor is true, but frequently refers to a fictitious ex-husband, Duane, and a story involving David Hasselholf and thong underwear.

“We’re so excited to have Grandma Lee at Bonkerz for all of May,” said Joe Sanfelippo, owner of Bonkerz Comedy Club. “It’s a great chance for her fans to see her in an intimate venue and hear the jokes she couldn’t do on TV.”
