Stratosphere Hotel & Casino Continues To Support The American Lung Association Of Nevada With The Second Annual “Scale The Strat”

Stratosphere Hotel & Casino will once again support the efforts of the American Lung Association of Nevada as sponsor of the second annual “Scale the Strat” extreme stair climb on Saturday, March 13 and Sunday, March 14. Last year’s event attracted 111 participants from across the United States and raised over $80,000 to help prevent lung disease and promote lung health in Nevada.

“The inaugural event last year was a huge success and raised much needed funds and awareness for the American Lung Association here in Nevada. The enthusiasm of the participants and also our own employees was incredible and I am confident that this year’s event will be even better,” said CEO Frank Riolo of American Casino & Entertainment Properties.

Known as a “vertical road race,” stair climbs have become a signature fundraising event for the American Lung Association. Held in prominent skyscrapers across the country, climbers race to the top floor individually or in teams, competing for fastest times and most fundraising dollars. The events are also popular with firefighters as climbing stairs is part of their standard and rigorous training. In fact, a firefighter from Seattle raced the 108 floors and 1,455 steps of the Stratosphere in seven minutes, 32 seconds to win bragging rights last year.

“Las Vegas is a famous destination and the Stratosphere is a famous Las Vegas icon,” said ALAN Executive Director Allison Newlon Moser. “We already have climbers registered from many states. Much as athletes from all over the world travel to marathons like Iron Man Triathlon in Hawaii or the Boston Marathon, the stair climb is becoming a popular destination for athletes, fitness buffs and corporate teams across the country.”

The Stratosphere Hotel & Casino is offering great room rates for “Scale the Strat” weekend from Friday, March 12 through Sunday, March 14. Call 1-800-99-TOWER, call code “Scale” to book a room or visit www.StratosphereHotel.com/packages.

The event is limited to the first 400 participants 21 years of age or older. The qualifying event will be held on Saturday, March 13, starting at 11 a.m. with the top 50 fastest climbers competing on Sunday, March 14 for the ultimate “Climb-Off.” A second qualifying event will be added on Saturday if necessary. Registration is $50, and climbers are also asked to make a minimum fundraising pledge of $250 to the American Lung Association. Proceeds go to promote lung health and combat lung disease. The ALA provides online support and personal fundraising coaching to help climbers achieve their fundraising goal. Event sponsor Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is providing online training and fitness tips. Detailed event and registration information can be found at www.scalethestrat.com.

The Stratosphere Hotel & Casino is located at 2000 Las Vegas Boulevard South. For more information, call 702-380-7777.

Girl’s Night: The Musical, Debuting May 6 At MGM Grand’s Hollywood Theatre In Las Vegas

The phenomenally popular off-Broadway production Girl’s Night: The Musical will make its Las Vegas debut at the Hollywood Theatre inside MGM Grand for a limited engagement May 6-12, 2010.

The UK smash hit, “tell-it-like-it-is” production, follows five friends as they gather for a night of wild karaoke. Audience members are invited to tag along with the remarkable and outrageous women to celebrate friendship, life, love and laughter. Bursting with energy, Girls Night is a hilarious, feel-good comedy that promises to have audience members dancing down the aisles to chart-topping female anthems like Lady Marmalade, It’s Raining Men, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, I Will Survive, and many more.

Women everywhere will be able to relate to the five independent and off-beat characters as they reminisce about the past and celebrate the future. Carol who is the natural born party animal, blunt Anita who says it like it is, Liza and her ‘issues’, boring Kate the greatest designated driver, and Sharon the not-so-angelic angel who just couldn’t resist tagging along for all of the fun. Las Vegas is known for no-holds-barred nights out on the town for women of all ages, where anything can happen. It’s only fitting that the production arrives in Sin City where estrogen-filled nights of hilarity and sisterhood are commonplace.

“We are thrilled to have Girls Night: The Musical, perform here at the Hollywood Theatre,” said Steve Zanella, Senior Vice President of Marketing for MGM Grand. “The show is unparalleled and we’re pleased to be the first to showcase the production in Las Vegas. At the end of the night, audience members will reaffirm their friendships and see that the lively and sometimes outrageous production has tremendous heart.”

Tickets are now on sale, so grab the girls and get ready to party! Tickets will be available at the MGM Grand Hollywood Theatre box office starting at $57.40 and $101.40 for premium seats. They are also available by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-745-3000, visiting any Ticketmaster outlet, or online at ticketmaster.com. The stage production of Girls Night is written by Louise Roche and directed by Jack Randle.

Frank Marino Unveils Dazzling Drag Spectacular At The Imperial Palace

Las Vegas entertainment icon, Frank Marino unveils his new dazzling drag spectacular “Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas” tonight at the Imperial Palace. As part of the celebration, Marino will also receive a second star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. The self-proclaimed “Peoples’ Diva,” is the first entertainer to earn two stars on the famed boulevard – one outside the Riviera and one outside the Imperial Palace.

Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas is a 75-minute, contemporary and up-beat production, full of male, lady look-alikes performing parodies of some of entertainment’s most beloved superstars. Marino stars in the show, performing a Joan Rivers-inspired comedic monologue and narrating the production throughout. Marino does a total of 17 costume changes, each time donning a different gown designed by the legendary Bob Mackie.

Marino is supported by an unbelievably talented cast of seven other quintessential queens, depicting 13 different divas. Six steamy male dancers heat up each act with dramatic choreography and chiseled bodies. “Divas” delights with pop culture-inspired tribute acts including Lady GaGa, Beyonce and Britney. Lady GaGa encourages the audience to “just dance,” Beyonce pleads for guests “to put a ring on it” and Britney’s sexy set is “like a circus.” Classic divas of the decades are channeled through acts such as Tina Turner, Shirley Bassey, Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, Liza Minelli and Cher. A powerful point comes in the show comes with a dramatic performance of Charles Aznavour’s, “What Makes A Man A Man”.

Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas is produced by SPI Entertainment CEO Adam Steck and VP Alex Schechter. SPI Entertainment also produces the highly successful Australian singing sensation Human Nature who shares the stage with Divas Las Vegas in the Imperial Palace’s Imperial Theater.

Tonight, Marino will unveil a new set, new choreography and a new musical line up, including music by Rihanna and The Pussycat Dolls.

“Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas” performs six nights a week (Dark Fridays) at 10 p.m. For more information on Frank Marino visit www.frankmarino.com. All guests attending “Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas” must be 18 years or older.

MORE on FRANK MARINO

Marino is an accomplished author, columnist, spokesperson and America’s favorite male actress. He starred in the blockbuster hit Miss Congeniality 2 alongside Sandra Bullock. As a long-time member of the Las Vegas community, Marino has a Las Vegas street named after him (which he jokes ‘also goes both ways’), the key to the City, two Stars on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars and his own day, as proclaimed by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.

Las Vegas Entertainers Plan Concert Supporting Fellow Performer Bill Fayne

A plethora of Las Vegas entertainers will show their support for fellow performer Bill Fayne in his time of need when they take the Suncoast stage on Saturday, March 6, starting at 2 p.m. to raise funds for the singer/musical conductor.

Unbeknownst to most, Fayne has suffered through a horrific few months. Fortunately, he is slowly recovering from major surgery for cancer that (due to his diabetes) developed complications in recovery.

“The great news now is that he is on a course to full recovery,” said Clint Holmes, co-host of the afternoon with his wife, Kelly Clinton-Holmes. Holmes has been Fayne’s friend since their college days and Fayne has been Holmes’ long-time conductor and arranger.

“He’s even lost 50 pounds, the hard way to say the least,” continues Holmes. “The tough part is Bill hasn’t been able to work for months and won’t be able for sometime to come. To assist him during his obvious financial turmoil, the Suncoast Hotel & Casino and Boyd Gaming is picking up all expenses for the concert and the performers are all donating their precious time.”

Saluting Fayne will be Terry Fator, Frankie Scinta, Lance Burton, Louie Anderson, Robin Leach, Sandy Hackett & the Rat Pack Show, the ladies from “Menopause,” Elvis Presley tribute artist Paul Casey, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons tribute artists “Oh What A Night” and Human Nature.

Also, Domenick Allen, Leigh Zimmerman, Cayleigh Capaldi, Rick Faugno, Lena Prima, 5th Avenue, Voci Vegas, the Las Vegas Tenors, Tony Sacca, Jerry Lopez, Jeff Neiman, Vincent Falcone and a chorus of Fayne’s friends.

Tickets are $45, $35 and $25 inclusive and are available at the Suncoast box office and other Boyd Gaming properties.

Back Alley Bar At Stratosphere Hotel & Casino New Home For Country-Rock Music On The Strip

Wolf CreekWith bars catering to country-rock music fans in short supply, the Back Alley Bar at Stratosphere Hotel & Casino steps in as the best place on the Strip to party, drink and do the occasional Texas two-step. Every Thursday through Monday at 10 p.m. one of Las Vegas’ most popular country-rock bands, WolfCreek, will rock the house.

“Bars playing classic rock, pop and Top 40 music are commonplace on the Strip so we are creating a place where country-rock fans can really enjoy themselves,” said Todd Ford, Director of Marketing. “The Back Alley Bar is a fitting venue with the perfect atmosphere, providing a genuine rocking roadhouse feel. We added buckets of peanuts, beer specials, lots of room for dancing and a great new country-rock house band.”

With their country and southern rock style, WolfCreek will have guests jumping out of their seats to hit the dance floor. The band has opened for many of country music’s top stars including Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Brooks and Dunn, Brad Paisley and The Dixie Chicks. While playing at local venues such as Station Casinos, WolfCreek has developed a strong following and reputation as one of the hottest country-rock bands in Las Vegas.

Filling the mid-week gap is The Jeremy Cornwell Project playing on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. Covering popular bands such as Counting Crows, Billy Idol, Dave Matthews Band and Oasis, the Jeremy Cornwell Project is “coffee house with an edge.” Cornwell previously played at House of Blues and Hard Rock before settling in mid-week at Back Alley Bar. The two-man band achieves a big, eclectic sound by sampling and layering tracks.

The Stratosphere Hotel & Casino is located at 2000 Las Vegas Boulevard South. For more information, call 702-380-7777.

TRIFECTA Gallery- Introducing Leonardo Aguirre di Matteo ‘En Escena’, Educated in Montevideo Uruguay as an architect Leo changed his tune to painting. Architectural references are made and one would think the artist also studied theatrics. The well drawn paintings take on a surreal stage presence but with an extremely compressed depth of field. The fun begins when you start following lines that lead to trap doors, wrap around pinball bumpers and dangle heavy objects from what appears to be simply a line- not a cable, and sometimes a dotted line. You begin to doubt your sense of weight, space and even time by the clever choice of totally unrelated objects drawn into his scenes.
