Flamingo Las Vegas Hosts World Series Of Beer Pong V Jan 1-5

Hundreds of competitors converge in Sin City to vie for beer pong throne and $50,000.

For the second consecutive year BPONG.COM will bring its exciting, one-of-a-kind beer pong tournament, The World Series of Beer Pong V (WSOBP) to the Flamingo Las Vegas Jan. 1 -5, 2010. The five-day event is the largest of its kind, where the winners will take home a top prize of $50,000 and the coveted title of “Beer Pong World Champion.”

This year’s tournament marks the fifth annual competition and is expected to be even larger and more competitive than years past. Last year’s tournament drew more than 800 beer-pongers, coming from nearly every state and three different countries. Reigning champs Ron and Pop of team “Smashing Time” will be back this year to defend their seats on the beer pong throne.

Beer Pong, also widely known as Beirut, is a game that has gained immense popularity in recent years. Members of two-person teams attempt to lob Beer Pong balls (similar to table tennis balls) into the opposing team’s cups placed at the other end of a long table. The first team to land balls in each of the defending team’s cups is crowned winner. Cups are often filled with beer (but for the tournament, beer or water) and may be consumed by the players if they choose.

The deadline to register is Sat. Dec. 25, 2009. The WSOBP, in conjunction with Flamingo Las Vegas, offers a variety of registration options starting at $599 per player, which includes a four night stay at the center-Strip resort. The competition is open to both men and women 21 years and older and all teams are guaranteed a minimum of twelve games.

For additional details, registration information, and WSOBP tournament rules visit www.bpong.com.

A Classic Taste Of Motown, The Temptations Return To The Orleans Showroom January 22-24

For more than 40 years, The Temptations have shined as pioneers of popular music with decades of smash hits and sold-out performances. Otis Williams, Bruce Williamson, Terry Weeks, Ron Tyson and Joe Herndon bring classic Motown back to The Orleans Showroom January 22, 23 and 24 starting at 8 p.m. each evening.

The Temptations are central characters in the history of contemporary American pop. An essential component of the original Motown machine invented by Berry Gordy, The Temptations began their musical career in Detroit in the early ’60s. In 1964, Smokey Robinson wrote and produced “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” the first major hit for The Temptations. An avalanche of hits followed, including “My Girl,” “It’s Growing,” “Since I Lost My Baby,” “Get Ready,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Beauty Is Only Skin Deep” and “I Wish It Would Rain.”

Beyond their fabulous singing, The Temptations became known for smooth-stepping and flawless presentations. The Temptation Walk became the staple of American style, flair, flash and class.

When the ’60s and ’70s turned political, The Temptations got serious. They changed their tone, dress and music with smoldering hits as “Runaway Child,” “Cloud Nine,” “I Can’t Get Next To You,” “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and “Psychedelic Shack.” The Temptations explosion continued in the ’80′s with their appearance on Motown 25 in 1983, and roared into the ’90′s with the NBC mini-series in 1998 that chronicled the group’s early days and rise to fame, earning them a coveted Emmy Award.

Aria Resort & Casino Opens Forever Changing The Las Vegas Strip – Grand Opening Day And Gala Party Highlighted By Rooftop Fireworks Finale

Under a canopy of fireworks illuminating the night sky, ARIA Resort & Casino opened its doors and welcomed its first guests. Located at the heart of CityCenter, ARIA is the centerpiece of this extraordinary urban resort destination. Its debut signifies the official grand opening of this city-within-a-city, following two weeks of celebrations for the reveals of Vdara Hotel & Spa, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas and Crystals retail and entertainment district. Featuring an unprecedented combination of striking architecture, sustainable design, high-end service and spectacular amenities, the stunning ARIA has dramatically altered the skyline of the world’s most famous boulevard and will forever change the perceptions of the Las Vegas Strip.

“ARIA and CityCenter reflect a combination of innovation, energy and visionary design that we believe will reshape how the world views the destination resort experience and attract visitors from around the globe as a landmark of taste and style,” said Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM MIRAGE, which developed CityCenter in partnership with Infinity World Development Corp.

Designed by the world-renowned firm Pelli Clarke Pelli, ARIA’s architectural expression reveals itself at every turn, from its two breathtaking curvilinear steel and glass towers to the clean use of natural elements including lush foliage, wood and stone.

At 18 million square feet, CityCenter is the largest private sustainable development in the world, having received six LEED® Gold certifications for its buildings.

At an early morning press conference yesterday, company executives and national dignitaries including the president, CEO and founding chairman of the U.S Green Building Council were on hand to pay tribute to CityCenter’s significant milestone in the arena of sustainable design, construction and operations. Among its sustainable distinctions, ARIA commissioned the first fleet of clean-fueled CNG stretch limousines. It also is the first resort on the Las Vegas Strip to generate its own electricity.

Also part of yesterday’s opening events, senior executives from both MGM MIRAGE and Infinity World had the rare honor of remotely ringing the Closing Bell of the New York Stock Exchange, marking the project’s major contribution to the financial fortitude of Las Vegas. CityCenter is the single largest hiring effort in the country today, creating new jobs for approximately 12,000 people.

Bobby Baldwin, president and CEO of CityCenter said, “This is an incredibly proud time in our company’s history. We believe this moment marks a turning point in the financial future of our community.”

A grand opening invite-only gala capped the opening day’s activities, giving VIP guests an opportunity to sample ARIA’s impeccable hospitality, creative personalized attention and incredible array of amenities. Finally, at 11 p.m. fireworks filled the sky with brilliant bursts of color, reflected in ARIA’s curved glass curtain wall, as Las Vegas visitors and locals gathered below eager to enter the resort when the doors opened shortly following the dramatic aerial salute.

Murren said, “CityCenter will become the benchmark by which all new developments will be measured, and it won’t be surpassed in scope and grandeur for decades.

Original Teen Idols Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell Team Up For Show At Orleans Showroom

Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell are universally known as two of the original teenage idols of early rock ‘n’ roll. From January 15-17, Avalon and Rydell will bring their incomparable voices and generation-defining songs to the Orleans Showroom for a three-night engagement.

Childhood friends from the same south Philadelphia neighborhood, Avalon and Rydell first teamed up on a band called Rocco and the Saints, with Avalon on trumpet and Rydell on drums. But it was their voices that would establish both performers as two of the biggest pop music stars of the pre-Beatles era.

Known as a child prodigy on the trumpet, Avalon was deemed a virtuoso by a member of the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra, and made several guest appearances on The Perry Como Show and the Jackie Gleason Show. But it was his 1957 single “Dee Dee Dinah” that established Avalon as a singing sensation, quickly selling more than a million copies. Numerous gold albums and hit singles followed, including “Venus,” “Bobby Sox to Stockings,” “Just Ask Your Heart,” and “Why.”

Avalon has some 30 motion picture credits, including the highly successful 1960s Beach Party film series, including such favorites as Grease, Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, Beach Blanket Bingo, Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, Bikini Beach and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini. His talents as a dramatic actor are evidenced in The Alamo and Guns of the Timberland. Other film credits include Skidoo, I’ll Take Sweden and Casino, among others.

Not to be outdone by his friend, Rydell recorded his first single hit in 1959 with “Kissin’ Time.” Over the next several years Rydell established himself as a teenage sensation with 34 Top 40 hits, including “We Got Love,” ” “Wild One,” “That Old Black Magic,” “I’ll Never Dance Again” and “Forget Him.” He was later recognized by Billboard as one of the Top Five Artists of the early ’60s.

Beyond selling millions of records, Rydell enjoyed fame as a regular on such television shows as American Bandstand, The Red Skelton Show and The Milton Berle Show. Rydell was also featured in the classic film Bye Bye Birdie as Ann-Margret’s boyfriend, Hugo Peabody.

Tickets are now available starting from $29.95, plus tax. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Orleans Box Office at 702.365.7075

Carrie Underwood Brings ‘Play On Tour’ To Orleans Arena May 22

One of country music’s most prolific and versatile power vocalists, Carrie Underwood, announced her new headline “Play On Tour” and a stop at the Orleans Arena May 22 with tickets for all shows going on sale next Friday, December 18. Underwood’s new headline tour kicks off March 11, 2010 with special guests Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia.

“I am getting so excited about next year as we are currently working through all the big plans for the tour,” says Underwood. “I cannot wait to perform new music and see familiar faces across the U.S. and Canada!”

Underwood spent this past year writing and recording for her new album Play On and performed a few select concerts. Her previous tour, 2008′s highly successful “Carnival Ride Tour” wrapped after 137 shows with 1.2 million fans in attendance.

Underwood recently launched her third album, Play On, at the No. 1 spot on both the country and pop album sales charts and has sold over 700,000 copies in 5 weeks. The release earned the highest first-week sales of the year for any solo country artist at that point and makes Carrie the only country act in Nielsen SoundScan history to achieve first-week sales of more than 300,000 units on each of their first three albums. The feat also extends to American Idol, where the Season Four winner is the first contestant to launch three albums in a row above the 300K threshold, with her 2005 debut, “Some Hearts,” now seven-times Platinum, and 2007′s Carnival Ride currently triple-Platinum.

Underwood is a four-time GRAMMY winner, ACM Entertainer of the Year, a three-time CMA and three-time reigning ACM Female Vocalist winner, and a member of the Grand Ole Opry with total album sales now in excess of 11 million.

Craig Morgan is signed to Sony Entertainment Nashville’s BNA Records label, and released his fifth studio album, That’s Why, last fall. His latest hit, the anthemic “Bonfire,” is currently Top 5 at country radio and headed for the top of the charts. Last year Morgan received one of country music’s highest honors – he was inducted into the membership of the Grand Ole Opry. Morgan has made more than 150 appearances on the Grand Ole Opry, and plays over 200 sold-out concerts a year. He spent ten years on active duty in the U.S. Army before launching his music career, and makes a point to perform as often as possible at U.S. military installations both in the U.S. and abroad.

Sons of Sylvia are currently finishing up their debut album release on 19 Recordings/Interscope Records due out in 2010. Ashley, Austin, and Adam Clark (formerly known as The Clark Brothers who won FOX’s Next Great American Band) are longtime friends of Underwood, and the band is currently featured on her new album in a powerful collaboration called “What Can I Say.”

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Two Legends Collide At UFC 109 When Randy Couture Battles Mark Coleman At Mandalay Bay Saturday, Feb. 6

Scheduled Fights Include Josh Koscheck vs. Paulo Thiago II; Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Brandon Vera; Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen and Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg

In 1998, two of the greatest amateur wrestlers in the United States – Randy “The Natural” Couture and Mark “The Hammer” Coleman – were scheduled to meet in a relatively new battleground called the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The mixed martial arts bout at UFC 17 never happened due to injury but on Saturday, Feb. 6, nearly 12 years and six UFC championships later, Couture and Coleman finally square off at UFC 109: Relentless. The colossal meeting of Hall of Fame fighters in the making for more than a decade will be live on pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Events Center and presented by Bud Light.

In the co-main event, the red-hot welterweight contender Josh Koscheck will get a chance to avenge his lone knockout loss against Brazil’s Paulo Thiago, along with pivotal showdowns featuring Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Brandon Vera, Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen and Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg.

“Couture vs. Coleman is one of those dream matchups that fans have always talked about,” said UFC President Dana White. “When you consider these are two of the greatest-ever wrestlers turned mixed martial artists, and it’s the first time that two guys who have already earned their way into the UFC Hall of Fame are fighting each other, this is not only an intriguing matchup, but a historic one.”

UFC 109: Relentless will be available live on pay-per-view on iN DEMAND, DIRECTV, DISH Network, TVN, BellTV, Shaw Communications and Viewer’s Choice Canada for a suggested retail price of $44.95 ($49.95/Canada) for standard definition or high-definition broadcasts (where available).

A five-time UFC champion who has reached the top of the mountain in both the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions, the ageless Randy Couture (fighting out of Las Vegas) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over light heavyweight contender Brandon Vera at UFC 105 in November. With 14 career UFC wins over the likes of Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Vitor Belfort, Pedro Rizzo and Tim Sylvia, “The Natural” is used to facing the best of the best. On February 6, he will finally get his opportunity to take on “The Hammer.”

“Mark Coleman is another classic matchup for me,” said Couture. “Like (Antonio Rodrigo) Nogueira, this is a fight that was supposed to happen a long time ago and is finally now a reality. Mark has a tremendous wrestling pedigree and his collegiate and freestyle background has taken him a long way in MMA. I look forward to testing my skills and fighting spirit against another UFC Hall of Fame fighter.”

The Godfather of Ground and Pound, Mark Coleman (fighting out of Columbus, Ohio) used that strategy to earn the first UFC heavyweight championship and a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame. A former NCAA Division I National Champion wrestler at Ohio State who is now fighting at light heavyweight, “The Hammer” returned to the Octagon in 2009 after a successful career in Japan. This included a memorable battle against Mauricio Rua and a victory over Stephan Bonnar. On February 6, he will begin his quest for a title at 205 pounds as he takes on fellow legend Couture.

Coleman said, “This is by far the biggest fight of my career. I have nothing but respect both inside and outside of the Octagon for Randy Couture. He is one of the greatest in the history of MMA. It’s an honor to accept this challenge to fight him and a win here would be one of the top highlights of my career. I expect to win and will prepare for a war. I will do all I can to make this an exciting fight for the fans.”

A fighter willing to fight anyone at anytime, Josh Koscheck (fighting out of Fresno, Calif.) is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career as he made a statement to the welterweight division by submitting rising star Anthony Johnson at UFC 106. Nevertheless, the 32-year-old former NCAA Division I National Champion wrestler is not about to rest on his laurels; instead he will look for a dose of redemption against Paulo Thiago as he continues on his road to a world title shot.

Koscheck stated, “I am training super hard right now. This is a big fight for me because I lost the first time when I fought him last February and I’m fighting him again this February. This time I am going to be the one knocking him out. I promise you this fight will not go out of the first round.”

A decorated grappler with knockout power, 28-year-old Paulo Thiago (fighting out of Brasilia, Brazil) introduced his name to the international scene with his first-round TKO of Koscheck in February 2009. Following a memorable battle with Jon Fitch and a victory over Jacob Volkmann last year, Thiago looks to kick off his 2010 campaign in style by repeating his spectacular win over “Kos.”

Thiago claimed, “Josh Koscheck is a great fighter who I had a lot of respect for before our first fight and who I still respect today. But, I am still as hungry as I was the first time we fought and I will do everything I can to repeat my victory on February 6.”

A former PRIDE star that kicked the door open in his UFC debut, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) needed less than two minutes to knock out dangerous contender Luiz Cane at UFC 106 in November. The twin brother of former PRIDE and UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, the 33-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and former Pan-Am Games boxing medalist is deadly wherever the fight goes, a fact he plans to introduce to Brandon Vera at UFC 109.

Like Nogueira, Vera (fighting out of San Diego, Calif.) is a feared striker and ground fighter who enjoys nothing better than a good old fashioned battle in the Octagon. Winner of three UFC bouts since moving to the 205-pound weight class, and fresh off a hard-fought three round scrap with Couture, “The Truth” is more focused and determined than ever to destroy any opposition in his path, beginning with Rogerio Nogueira.

One of the leading contenders for a shot at the middleweight title, Nate Marquardt (fighting out of Denver, Colo.) has left little doubt that he is ready for a rematch with Anderson Silva after decisive knockouts over Martin Kampmann, Wilson Gouveia and Demian Maia. However, there remains one obstacle in the path of former King of Pancrase’s way and at UFC 109 he gets the chance to remove fellow contender Chael Sonnen from his path.

A former U.S. Olympic alternate and two-time NCAA National Champion, Chael Sonnen (fighting out of West Linn, Ore.) has used his strong wrestling pedigree to secure 25 wins in his mixed martial arts career. With wins over Yushin Okami, Dan Miller and previously unbeaten WEC champion Paulo Filho, the time has come for Sonnen to make his case for a shot at the 185-pound crown.

Former welterweight champion Matt Serra (fighting out of East Meadow, N.Y.) emerged as one of the UFC’s true superstars with his stirring first-round knockout of Georges St-Pierre in 2007. However, Serra – the first American to earn a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under the legendary Renzo Gracie – was no overnight sensation having already faced the likes of BJ Penn, Din Thomas, Chris Lytle and Yves Edwards over the course of his career. On February 6, fresh from an exciting “Fight of The Night” with Matt Hughes in May 2008, Serra returns to the Octagon.

World-class wrestler and perennial contender Frank Trigg (fighting out of Las Vegas) is a veteran of six UFC fights including two classic battles with then champion Hughes and two sensational wins against Renato Verissimo and Dennis Hallman. In February, the 37-year-old – who has won four of his last five bouts – looks to begin another UFC winning streak.
