Crystals At CityCenter Achieves LEED® Gold Certification – Crystals Is World’s Largest LEED® Gold Certified Retail District

Crystals, the retail and entertainment district at CityCenter, has achieved LEED® Gold Core & Shell certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), making it the world’s largest retail district to receive this level of recognition. Opening in December, CityCenter was created with a vision to introduce a new level of environmental consciousness to the world-famous Strip and has emerged as a leader in sustainable urban development. Crystals’ achievement marks the fourth LEED Gold certification for CityCenter; previous recipients included 1. ARIA Resort’s hotel tower, 2. ARIA’s convention center and theater, and 3. Vdara Hotel & Spa. CityCenter is poised to achieve a combination of LEED Gold and Silver ratings throughout its remaining hotels, residences, dining and public spaces.

Under the LEED for Core & Shell rating system, USGBC evaluated the entire district with the exception of the tenants’ interior spaces. This enables tenants to capitalize on green strategies implemented throughout Crystals, including energy and water efficiencies, enhanced indoor air quality, sustainable building materials and an abundance of natural light.

“From CityCenter’s inception, we aimed to create a vibrant destination to demonstrate that a community can be both beautiful and sustainable for today and for future generations,” said Cindy Ortega, MGM MIRAGE’s senior vice president of Energy and Environmental Services. “As we celebrate Crystals’ achievement, along with the recent Gold certification of ARIA and Vdara, we’re a step closer to introducing this transformative development to Las Vegas, and welcoming our guests to an environment designed with their health and well-being in mind.”

Crystals’ sustainable highlights:

* Radiant floor cooling will use less energy for air conditioning by chilling the air specifically in occupied areas rather than cooling the entire space
* The majority of all wood products used in Crystals are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, meaning the wood is produced from forests with sustainable management practices in place
* Annually, Crystals will save an estimated 1.8 million gallons of water within the building through efficient water fixtures. This equates to a savings of nearly 38 percent over existing building codes
* Skylights will allow for abundant natural light to illuminate the space
* Guests arriving with alternative fuel vehicles will have access to preferred parking

* More information on CityCenter’s green initiatives can be found at http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/mgm/39529/

S. Richard Fedrizzi, President, CEO and Founding Chair, USGBC, said, “From its intense focus on water conservation to the multiple strategies for energy efficiency, the CityCenter team has delivered several exceptional properties that qualify for the LEED Gold rating. Extreme climates challenge the most creative of project teams, and the CityCenter team has risen to the occasion and then some. We congratulate them on their significant achievement.”

Crystals’ multi-faceted exterior was designed by Studio Daniel Libeskind*; the brilliant glass canopy depicts the detailed beauty of a quartz crystal, welcoming an abundance of natural light into the three-level experiential environment. Crystals’ interior was designed by David Rockwell and Rockwell Group, creating a 21st century park that will celebrate nature and the seasons, and feature “changeable artwork” such as abstract hanging gardens, a lush flower carpet and more.

Large-format luxury retailers that will establish Crystals as a preeminent international shopping destination include Louis Vuitton, Prada, TIFFANY & CO., Ermenegildo Zegna, Roberto Cavalli, Christian Dior, Versace, Bulgari, Cartier, Hermes, Bally, Van Cleef & Arpels, Mikimoto, Emilio Pucci and ILORI. Unique-to-the-market retailers opening their first locations in Las Vegas include Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, Miu Miu, Paul Smith, Kiton, Marni, Assouline, H. Stern, Tourbillon, Porsche Design and de Grisogono.

Visitors to Crystals also will enjoy Eva Longoria Parker’s first Las Vegas restaurant, BESO; two dynamic new dining concepts from internationally renowned master chef Wolfgang Puck; an exciting new pub concept by Todd English; and Mastro’s Ocean Club.

CityCenter’s LEED certification effort was lead by MGM MIRAGE’s Energy and Environmental Services division along with a recognized group of sustainability consultants including CTG Energetics, Green Building Services, Viridian Energy & Environmental, Fore Solutions and Simon & Associates.

Vdara, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas and Veer Towers will include approximately 2,400 residences total. Additionally, The Harmon, a 400-room luxury boutique hotel, is slated to open at CityCenter in late 2010. The Black Eyed Peas To Perform December 29 & 30 At Mandalay Bay Events Center

The Black Eyed Peas, the Los Angeles-based quartet and one of the music industry’s most popular hip-hop bands, will celebrate New Year’s week with two shows at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. The performances will take place Tuesday, Dec. 29 and Wednesday, Dec. 30 with both shows scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

The Black Eyed Peas, featuring Will.i.am, Fergie, Taboo and apl.de.ap, came together in the early ’90s and have grown the group into an unparalleled story of accomplishment. They are the best selling hip-hop group in music today, having sold more than 26 million albums worldwide and also have toured more countries than any other artist. Most recently, the three-time GRAMMY Award-winners created The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies), its fifth studio album and its most adventurous-sounding effort to date.

The E.N.D. entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at No. 1 and has the unmistakable club bounce and playful lyrical fervor fans have come to expect from The Black Eyed Peas. However, it also is an album inspired by the underground world of electro and rock-infused house music, artists such as Boyz Noize and DJ David Guetta (both of whom appear on the album), Justice and A-Trak, and a world populated by raucous, all-night dance parties bubbling throughout every major city around the globe.

The first single from The E.N.D., “Boom Boom Pow,” is a refined, high-energy club-rap track which became the group’s first single ever to top the Billboard 100 singles chart. “Boom Boom Pow,” along with the second single “I Gotta Feeling,” spent 26 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Billboard history with the longest successive stay at the top of the chart.

Rolling Stone called THE E.N.D., “The best thing The Black Eyed Peas have ever recorded,” while Entertainment Weekly raved, “Pure Top 40 nirvana.” USA Today confirmed, “It’s booming, electrified pop with plenty of pow.”

This is The Black Eyed Peas’ most ambitious stage production to date and the first time it will perform it in the United States. The group recently completed sold-out tours of Japan and Australia and audiences are raving about the multi-million dollar custom stage and set design. State-of-the-art rock lighting with never before seen multi-colored lasers, mega high-definition video projection, flying acrobatic stunts and dancers make the show a true spectacle.

Arab World Music Icons And American Music Stars Share The Stage At MGM Grand For Benefit Celebration Of Universal Children’s Day; “Sahra” Makes History Saturday, Nov. 21

Khaled (Algeria), Assala Nasri (Syria) and Rida Al Abdulla (Iraq) to Headline and American GRAMMY Honorees K.C. Porter & Karina Pasian to Perform; Surprise Guests to Appear as more than 100 Artists Join Forces in Star-Studded Spectacle.

MGM Grand and Dawn Elder World Entertainment proudly present the world premiere of Sahra on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Sahra is an unprecedented multi-media event celebrating Arabic culture in the Middle East and North Africa. Performances and presentations bring together international music and film celebrities, Arab film stars and other with the Hollywood’s elite, and more than 100 master musicians and dancers from 23 countries. In recognition of Universal Children’s Day, all profits from Sahra will benefit leading children’s charities focused on the Middle East and North Africa (ACCESS and NAAMA). With its ambitious program and bold humanitarian mission, Sahra marks a watershed for Arabic culture in the United States.

International recording stars Khaled, Assala, and Rida Al Abdulla headline the Sahra concert, the crown jewel in a weekend of multi-media events that includes video montages of beloved works by Middle Eastern film celebrities, late-night dancing with the latest hits in Arabic popular dance music, and much more. The MGM Grand undergoes an Arabian makeover for this historic weekend, beginning with spectacularly designed concert staging celebrating a stunningly diverse heritage.

Algerian-born Khaled (Cheb Khaled), pioneer and king of “pop rai” music, makes his long-awaited return to the U.S. Khaled’s 1991 hit “Didi” and “Aisha” 1996 swept the world and made this homeland icon an international sensation. Collaborations with The Wailers, Santana, Earth Wind & Fire, Quincy Jones and hundreds of others, cementing Khaled’s reputation as one of the world’s most moving and powerful vocalists and performers of all time. His legacy includes 10 diamond, platinum, and gold albums, as well as the highest-selling Arab album in history. Khaled has played to audiences of more than 100,000, and is set to make music history again with his latest album release “Liberty,” and this being the first time in U.S. history an Algerian/North African artist will headline in Las Vegas.

Assala Nasri has been called the voice of the Arab world today, and the heir apparent to legendary Arab singer Fairouz. Born in Syria, and raised in a musical milieu, Assala launched her career in 1991 with the release of Law Ta’rafou (If You Know). The album had four songs in the classical tarab style, art compositions whose aim is to bring about a shared experience of musical ecstasy (tarab) among listeners. As with so many of the albums to follow, it included a song for her father. The album was an instant hit with heartbreaking songs like “Samehtak Ketir (I Forgive You),” which was given to her as a gift from the famous composer Sayed Makkawi. A dynamic and charismatic diva with an unmatched vocal range and style, Nasri records and performs worldwide. Having released more than 20 studio albums and more than 40 No. 1 hits, and selling more than 20 million albums, it is no surprise her 2008 CD Nos Hala (Half Mood) debuted at No. 1 on Rotana’s Top 5 in Egypt and Lebanon, and most of the Arab World. Her appearance at MGM Grand will be her first return to the United States since 2003.

Iraqi Rida Al Abdulla has been singing since the age of eight. Graduating from the Bagdad School of music he began recording and performing throughout the region gaining wide popularity and recognized as one of the best new voice of Iraq. His career was interrupted in 1993 by forced military service, imprisonment and torture under the regime of Saddam Hussein. Following a daring escape in 1997, Rida relaunched his career in Dubai where his first three albums went gold. This year, he released a long-awaited fourth album “Yom Wa Sana” that breaks new ground in integrating Western and Arabic instrumentation, rhythms and production style. The title single has already climbed the charts to number two after only two months of release. Abdulla is noted for his classical and composition style that preserves the tradition of Iraqi maqam, while delivering poignant lyrics.

Joining these international legends on stage will be a host of recognized performers from North Africa, the Middle East, France and the United States, including guest appearances by the 11-time GRAMMY Nominated Palestinian oud and violin virtuoso SIMON SHAHEEN and multi-Tele Award-winning Lebanese Choreographer ADAM BASSMA with his dance company. The evening will also include guest appearances by American celebrities, including GRAMMY-winners K.C. Porter, and GRAMMY-nominated rising star – Def Jam’s KARINA PASIAN – as well as a number of noteworthy “surprise” guests. The Sahra concert promises a multi-national summit of brilliant and committed performers, breathtaking performances and a show of unity in the tradition of “We Are the World,” and the Live 8 concert, all focused on making a better future for kids.

“We are thrilled to host a unique Middle Eastern concert for such an important cause,” said Gamal Aziz, president and chief operating officer of MGM Grand. “This event allows us to continue our tradition of providing a stage for the top names in worldwide entertainment while supporting charities that assist refugee children in various communities around the world.”

In recognition of Universal Children’s Day, all profits from Sahra will benefit two organizations with unmatched track records when it comes to uplifting the lives of Arab children around the world: NAAMA Foundation (National Arab American Medical Association) and ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services).

NAAMA was formed in 1975 by a group of physicians in Los Angeles eager to provide help for populations affected by war in the Middle East. Executive Director Mouhanad Hammami says NAAMA is a “non-profit, non-political, and non-religious” humanitarian enterprise whose current initiatives range from creating a burn unit in Nablus, to establishing pediatric oncology standards in Egypt, serving the needs of Iraqi refugee children in Jordan, and providing emergency relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the 911 attacks, and the 2008 Gaza crisis. NAAMA’s membership of medical professionals of Arabic descent, and its many good works, have made it one of the most respected charitable organizations operating today.

For the past 35 years, ACCESS has been an award-winning social service organization committed to developing and supporting the Arab-American community. ACCESS initiatives include Detroit’s acclaimed Arab-American National Museum (opened in 2005) and more than 90 programs serving Arab-American communities in seven different locations. The organization’s most recent initiative involves creating fitness centers to serve the largest population of Arab-descended children in the United States, those in the Detroit metro area. The focus, once again, is children, in particular preparing them for healthy and productive lives.
