Holly Madison and Penn & TellerThe Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Las Vegas hosted its 4th Annual Gala at Paris Las Vegas Saturday night (8.29.09), giving people an opportunity to celebrate the passage of the Nevada Domestic Partnership Bill. This year’s keynote address was delivered by United States Senator Harry Reid in front of a crowd exceeding 600 attendees. The event raised more than $175,000 to help further HRC’s work towards equal rights for the LGBT community.

Before entering the gala, decorated in signature blue and gold décor, attendees enjoyed an ice-room themed reception. Celebrity appearances included Holly Madison; Penn & Teller; Alec Mapa, cast member of Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives; Josh Strickland; Anthony Cools; Bobby Slayton; Tim Weaver, celebrity chef; Le Reve cast members; Phantom cast members and Jubilee! Showgirls. Many distinguished state leaders were also in attendance.

This year, HRC honored Bob Forbuss with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” and Chris Giunchigliani with HRC’s “Community Ally Award.” Both have been longtime members of the Vegas community and actively involved in the LGBT fight for equality.

Fremont Street Experience’s “Summer of ’69: Vegas or Bust” Wraps Up With “End of Summer, What a Bummer Bash” Labor Day Weekend

Fremont Street Experience will conclude the “Summer of ’69: Vegas or Bust” events with an “End of Summer, What a Bummer Bash” Labor Day weekend. The bash will celebrate Fremont Street Experience’s summer long entertainment and event series highlighting the historic year in American history.

“Labor Day Weekend: End of Summer, What a Bummer Bash” will close the summer concert series the weekend of Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7. Highlighting the weekend will be concerts by Canned Heat on Saturday, Sept. 5, and Three Dog Night on Sunday, Sept. 6. Both bands will be performing from 9-11 p.m.

Canned Heat is the ultimate blues, rock and boogie band that formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The group has been noted for creating its own interpretation of blues music and after appearances at Monterey and Woodstock, the band acquired worldwide fame.
Canned Heat’s unique blend of modern electric blues, rock and boogie has earned them a loyal following and influenced many aspiring guitarists and bands during the past four decades. Their Top 40 country-blues-rock songs, “On The Road Again,” “Let’s Work Together,” and “Going Up The Country,” became rock anthems throughout the world with the latter being adopted as the unofficial theme song for the film Woodstock. Canned Heat’s current members include Greg Kage, Dale Spalding, Barry Levenson and original member, Adolfo “Fito” de la Parra.

>From 1969 to 1974, nobody had more Top 10 hits or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night. The true American rock band, Three Dog Night, is best known for their influential music from 1968 through 1975, including hits “Mama Told Me Not to Come” and “One.” Throughout their years, they’ve earned 13 gold albums, recorded 21 Billboard Top 40 hits, seven of which went gold, and by late 1975, they had sold nearly 50 million records. The current lineup features founding members Cory Wells, Danny Hutton, Jimmy Greenspoon and Michael Allsup, in addition to longtime members Paul Kingery and Pat Bautz. The group continues to tour and record, performing 80 concerts a year and drawing large crowds.
