Air Supply ‘Live on the Road 2009′ Tour Stops At The Orleans Showroom September 3-6

Australian soft-rock group Air Supply quickly became a staple of early ’80s radio after their first smash hit, “Love and Other Bruises.” Performing together for more than 30 years, Air Supply returns to The Orleans Showroom September 3, 4, 5 and 6 for four 8 p.m. performances.

Englishman Graham Russell and Australian Russell Hitchcock met in 1975 while performing in the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Later that year, the duo formed Air Supply and released their first smash hit and self-titled debut album, reaching gold in Australia. After opening for Rod Stewart’s tour in the United States in the late ’70s, Air Supply had an international breakthrough and signed a distribution deal with Artista Records in 1980.

Their album, Lost in Love, featured three U.S. top five singles, including the title track, which was the fastest-selling single in the world; “Every Woman in the World”; and “All Out of Love,” which hit No. 11 in the United Kingdom’s Top 40 charts. Over the next three years, Air Supply produced hit after hit, including “Just Another Woman,” “The One That You Love,” “Here I Am,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Even The Nights Are Better” and “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All,” which reached No. 2 on the Billboard charts in 1983.

Producing 30 albums and more than 15 hit singles, Air Supply has become a worldwide sensation, touring in Australia, Asia, India, the United States and the Caribbean. In 2008, as the only Australian band on the list, Air Supply was named No. 83 on Billboard’s top 100 musical acts of all time.

Las Vegas’ CityCenter To Be One Of The World’s Largest Green Developments

CityCenter
CityCenter Emerges as Leader of Sustainable Urban Development, Driving Green Economies of Scale in Multiple Industry Segments

Created with a vision to bring a new level of environmental consciousness to the world-famous Strip, CityCenter will be one of the world’s largest sustainable developments, from design and construction to operations and guest amenities. An extraordinary urban resort destination brought to life by eight world-renowned architects, the 18-million-square-foot development is set to achieve a combination of gold and silver LEED® ratings by the U.S. Green Building Council throughout its distinctive hotels; residences; dining, retail and public spaces. Using cutting-edge solutions, CityCenter has been able to grow responsibly without sacrificing the quality of materials or guest experience.

Due to its size and purchasing power, CityCenter is driving green economies of scale in multiple industry segments, paving the way for other entities to build and operate sustainably. CityCenter has moved beyond existing green practices to empower industry-wide innovations.

CityCenter

Key Sustainable Highlights

* First energy-generation on The Strip through its 8.5 megawatt natural-gas co-generation plant, providing efficient electricity on site, reducing emissions and using “waste heat” to provide all domestic hot water
* Water conservation technology and programs that will save between 32% and 39% within the buildings and 60% in outdoor landscaping
* First-ever fleet of stretch limos powered by clean-burning compressed natural gas (CNG)
* Nation’s most technologically advanced hotel rooms with exclusive features allowing guests to “green their stay”
* Development of slot machine bases that serve as floor air-conditioning units, efficiently cooling guests from the ground up, rather than wasting energy on empty space by cooling from the ceiling
* Energy-efficiency initiatives providing a savings equivalent to powering 7,700 households annually
* Creation of a large-scale recycling operation that enabled the recycling or reuse of more than 230,000 tons of construction waste, including 80% of the imploded Boardwalk Hotel

Most significantly, collaborating with the foremost sustainability and LEED® consultants from throughout the nation, CityCenter has introduced more than 10,000 construction trade and craftsmen to green building techniques that can be implemented at other developments throughout Las Vegas and beyond.

“CityCenter captures the energy and diversity of Las Vegas in one of the world’s largest green urban developments,” said Jim Murren, chairman and CEO of MGM MIRAGE. “Designing CityCenter with sustainable elements and practices reinforces its permanence and creates a healthier environment for our guests and residents, as well as for the 12,000 people who ultimately will work at CityCenter.”

SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS

Construction and Recycling

· The Boardwalk Hotel was imploded to make way for CityCenter. 80% of the previous structure has been recycled into the building materials or sent elsewhere for reuse. Crushed blocks and mortar were used in dust abatement on the construction site and as aggregate in concrete and asphalt; recycled whole and broken glass, and bathroom fixtures were shipped to other countries for reuse after being wrapped in Boardwalk curtains and carpets as recycled packing materials

· 95% of all construction waste that would have ended up in landfills has been recycled

· Ventilation systems have been completely sealed until installed, which protects them from the dust, smoke and harmful particles that are present on a construction site. No smoking is allowed on the site once the ventilation is sealed, which will give the buildings vastly higher indoor air quality when the facility opens

· CityCenter uses Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) wood, which ensures wood only is taken from forests with responsible management practices. Low volatile organic compound (VOC) paints are used, along with enough sustainable certified carpet to cover 140 American football fields

· Reclaimed water from Monte Carlo is used for dust control in place of precious drinking water, which has contributed to savings of 2.4 million gallons of potable water

· A concrete batch plant allowed concrete to be generated on site saving gas and energy

· Each room is carefully sealed to prevent migration of tobacco smoke ensuring freshness and comfort for each guest

Design

· An 8.5 megawatt natural gas co-generation plant will provide efficient electricity on site (10% of overall CityCenter use), reduce emissions and utilize the waste heat from the power generation to provide all the domestic hot water necessary at CityCenter, including within its numerous pools

· Each tower has energy-efficient exterior features to help reduce the heat transfer from the sun onto the buildings, including air-brows, reflective rooftops, specially coated windows and high-performance glass

· CityCenter worked with manufacturers to invent designer water fixtures that deliver incredibly satisfying, pressurized showers while using a third less water

· Outdoor landscaping was carefully selected to provide a beautiful array of native desert plant life which is watered through a highly efficient irrigation system. The system is equipped with moisture controls to ensure watering is only done when necessary

· Marquees, signs and slot machines will be energy efficient

Operations

· CityCenter will offer sustainable options for meetings, conventions and events by incorporating environmentally responsible practices and services including sales kits constructed from recycled paper; ARIA’s banquet server uniforms will be made from recycled polyester

· CityCenter employees will undergo LEED® training as part of orientation, educating them about CityCenter’s green initiatives and how to do their jobs in line with the development’s green focus

· Many restaurants will focus on farm-to-table ingredients, buying produce, meat and dairy direct from responsible local growers

· Spas will be committed to using organic or wild-crafted paraben-free products; the implementation of a recycling program and use of recycled paper for spa materials

· CityCenter will implement green cleaning practices within the hotels, using products that minimize concerns to human health and the environment. Additionally, the areas where chemical use occurs are negatively pressurized with separate outside exhaust and no recirculation of air

· All of CityCenter’s facilities will have integrated recycling programs

Guest Experience

· For the highest quality, environmentally sustainable travel, CityCenter has commissioned the world’s first-ever fleet of CNG stretch limos. The 26 silver, 72-inch Lincoln Town Cars are 100% dedicated to utilizing CNG. In addition to abundant U.S. natural gas reserves, CNG is one of the cleanest-burning alternative fuels available

· Natural gas used by the CNG stretch-limo fleet produces significantly lower amounts of harmful emissions such as nitrogen oxides (35-60 percent less), particulate matter (90-97 percent less), carcinogenic and toxic pollutants such as carbon monoxide (90-97 percent less) as well as the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (25 percent less). Source: U.S. Department of Energy

· Guests arriving at CityCenter via carpool or in alternative-fuel vehicles will have access to preferred parking spaces; bicycle valet services also will be provided

· The urban community offers numerous amenities within walking distance of the hotels, including restaurants, stores and entertainment. CityCenter’s people mover will offer convenient transportation between Monte Carlo, Crystals and Bellagio

· CityCenter’s hotels will feature the most technologically advanced guestrooms in the country, with exclusive technology that allows guests to “green their stay.” With a simple setting, guests can indicate their preferred light level and room temperature, and the properties can automatically put a room into unoccupied status upon checkout, turning off the heating/cooling system, televisions, lights and any appliances

· Extensive natural light will be utilized through skylights and expansive windows at CityCenter to reduce energy use

· Many of the artists participating in CityCenter’s public Fine Art Collection will use reclaimed material in their works of art. For instance, Maya Lin’s silver cast of the Colorado River will incorporate the use of reclaimed silver; CityCenter’s sustainability initiatives inspired her first work of art in Las Vegas. Richard Long’s mud wall drawings will incorporate natural products, Nancy Rubins’ will construct a gravity-defying display that includes recycled river and ocean vessels, and Isa Genzken’s steel and aluminum rose will contain 75% recycled materials

When it opens in December, CityCenter will not only redefine the Las Vegas skyline, but also transform the destination into a global showcase of urban design and sustainability

Nevada Ballet Theatre Names Marie Osmond As Its ‘Woman Of The Year’ For The 2010 Black & White Ball

Nevada Ballet Theatre is honored to announce singer, author, television personality, Broadway performer and philanthropist Marie Osmond as its ‘Woman of the Year’ for the 2010 Black & White Ball. As one-half of the beloved singing duo “Donny & Marie,” this all-around entertainer will be honored on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Paris Las Vegas. Born into an internationally known entertainment family, Osmond emerged on the country music scene at the tender age of 13 with her hit “Paper Roses,” making her the first female in country music history to debut with a number one record.

Along with her six performing brothers, “The Osmond Brothers,” Marie was an instant sensation when she appeared on stage at a sold-out Madison Square Garden concert. She was soon touring with her famous brothers, forever changing the name of the group to “The Osmonds.” Grammy nominations for Marie as 1974′s “Best Female Country Vocal Performance” and “Best New Artist” soon followed, the beginning of the indelible mark she has made on the entertainment world.

Always known for her kind-hearted nature, Marie co-founded the Children’s Miracle Network in 1982, the largest children’s charity of its kind in the world. Through over 170 Children’s Hospitals, more than 17 million children are treated for various health issues every year. Her charity has raised over 3.6 billion dollars to date.

Osmond’s popularity now spans generations as she enters her fifth decade in entertainment. Among numerous hit records, she generated insurmountable success with her brother Donny in “The Donny & Marie Show,” a weekly television variety series that aired from 1976 – 1981. In addition to Broadway musicals, TV movies and commercials, she eventually became a two-time New York Times best-selling author and sought after speaker. In 1991, she launched the “Marie Osmond Fine Porcelain Collector Dolls” line on QVC, currently the company’s top-selling doll line.

“Nevada Ballet Theatre is honored to recognize entertainer Marie Osmond,” says Nevada Ballet Theatre Co-Founder and Co-Chair Nancy Houssels. “From her days on “The Donny & Marie Show” to her work with The Children’s Miracle Network, we are thrilled to celebrate her achievements and dedication to the world of arts and entertainment.”

Already an instant success as a Vegas headliner along with her brother Donny, Osmond’s ‘everyday’ values are a large part of her appeal, enabling millions of fans to identify with her and garnering her recognition as a role model for women throughout the world.

Surrounded by arts supporters as well as local dignitaries and celebrities, this iconic performer will accept her ‘Woman of the Year’ award in the Champagne Ballroom at Paris Las Vegas, following an elegant evening of cocktails, dinner and lively entertainment. This year, in place of a VIP reception held prior to the event, those guests will instead be treated to a special VIP post Black & White Ball Meet and Greet with Osmond.

Since 1985, the Black & White Ball has been a societal main stay in the city of glitz and glamour. Honoring legendary females who have positively impacted the performing arts, this annual fundraiser supports the state’s largest professional ballet company.

Generating significant media attention, the Black & White Ball began garnering national recognition when it honored Debbie Reynolds in 2000. Since then, articles have appeared in “People,” and “The Los Angeles Times,” among others.

Past honorees of the Black & White Ball read like a who’s who of legendary women. Since 2001, Nevada Ballet Theatre has honored Debbie Reynolds (2001), Chita Rivera (2002), Carol Channing (2003) Celine Dion (2004), Ann-Margret (2005), Rita Rudner (2006), Paula Abdul (2007), Twyla Tharp (2008) and most recently Bette Midler (2009).

Proceeds from the evening will allow Nevada Ballet Theatre to continue to provide main stage productions by its professional company, quality dance training within its affiliated school, the Academy of Nevada Ballet Theatre, as well as through its Education and Outreach program, Future Dance.

Superstar Mariah Carey To Perform Special Engagement At The Pearl At The Palms

With worldwide sales of more than 175 million albums, Mariah Carey – the most successful female recording artist in history – is set to perform the most intimate shows of her career in a special engagement at The Pearl inside the Palms Casino Resort. These performances will take place on Friday, September 11; Saturday, September 12; Friday, October 9 and Saturday October 10, 2009. Show time for each performance is 8 p.m.

These once-in-a-lifetime, up-close-and-personal performances at The Pearl are the first of its kind and surround the highly anticipated release of Mariah’s latest album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel which features the current hit single “Obsessed.”

“Obsessed” was written and produced by Mariah, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, who are responsible for the majority of tracks on the new album. Memoirs is scheduled to arrive on September 15, 2009.

Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, the 12th studio album of Mariah’s career, is the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her RIAA platinum-selling album E=MC² (released April 15, 2008), and her worldwide 10 million selling The Emancipation Of Mimi (released April 12, 2005). Both were Soundscan #1 debut albums that made chart history for Mariah in the U.S. and numerous territories around the globe.

The Emancipation Of Mimi generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles and countless more honors during its 18-month chart stay. The album debuted at #1 with first week sales of 404,000 copies, Mariah’s highest first week sales total (until E=MC²). Soundscan’s biggest-selling album of 2005, Mimi featured “We Belong Together” (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and “Don’t Forget About Us,” Mariah’s 16th and 17th #1 career singles respectively. They tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley’s 17 #1′s.

Three years later, E=MC² debuted at #1 with first week sales of 463,000 copies, which now stands as the highest first week sales total of Mariah’s career. The album’s success brought total sales of Mariah’s albums, singles and videos to more than 175 million worldwide, distancing her even further from the pack as the top-selling female recording artist in history.

E=MC² spun off four singles: “Touch My Body,” “Bye Bye,” “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time,” and “I Stay In Love.” Of these, “Touch My Body” made history when it became Mariah’s 18th #1 Hot 100 hit, thus surpassing Elvis Presley. The track’s two weeks at the top also marked Mariah’s 78th and 79th cumulative career weeks at #1, which tied Elvis’ long-standing all-time high of 79 weeks at #1, as calculated in Billboard.com. At the same time, Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles’ all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

This event is presented by Andrew Hewitt and Live Nation. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. and show time is 8:00 p.m. The Pearl is home to Miller Lite Live, presented by Cricket Wireless and sponsored by Citi; for more information on upcoming concerts, please call 702-942-6888.
