Sahara Captures The Stop

Bob Kephart’s Comedy Stop is back on the Las Vegas Strip and the Sahara Hotel has it!

During an extensive round of negotiations with various hotels, Kephart and the Sahara Hotel Casino, agreed that the Comedy Stop should relocate in the famous Congo Room.

“After being at one hotel for nearly 19 years, I was not surprised at the immediate response I received upon leaving the Tropicana Hotel,” Kephart said. “I was offered various rooms on the Strip, as well as off the Strip. After considering everything presented, there was no question, the Sahara Congo Room was the place to be!”

Kephart will open the new Comedy Stop at the Sahara on Monday, July 20th, with one show a night beginning at 9 p.m.

“We will maintain our policy of booking three of the best comedians on the circuit every week,” Kephart pointed out. “After all, that’s what made us the number one comedy club, as voted on by residents of Las Vegas and Atlantic City”

Showtimes for the Comedy Stop at the Sahara will be 9 p.m., with tickets priced at $24.95 plus tax, applicable fees.

Lance Burton To Reappear At Monte Carlo For Six More Years – New Contract Marks Magical Moment For Evolving Resort

The grand illusions of legendary Master Magician Lance Burton will continue to captivate and enchant audiences at Monte Carlo through 2015. The signing of the new agreement comes at the completion of an already legendary 13-year run, which began the day the resort opened on June 21, 1996. The addition of six more years celebrates one of the longest partnerships in the history of Las Vegas entertainment and promises Monte Carlo guests almost two decades of astounding performances and mesmerizing sleight-of-hand.

“We are thrilled to sign Lance Burton for another run,” said Monte Carlo President & COO Anton Nikodemus. “We have spent the last two years introducing new energy into Monte Carlo, with exciting offerings such as BRAND Steakhouse, Diablo’s Cantina and a newly remodeled casino floor. Even more enhancements are planned over the next few months leading up to the opening of CityCenter late this year. The thousands of visitors soon to grace our doors, some maybe for the first time, will introduce a whole new audience to Lance’s magical entertainment.”

Lance Burton broke his foot during a performance on Thursday, May 7 and has been confined by a doctor to bed rest since, stating, “I wish I could magically make the bones in my foot heal faster, but that is against union rules. Magic should only be used for entertainment purposes and that is what I am looking forward to doing once I start walking again.”

Magic returns to The Lance Burton Theatre on Tuesday, July 7 with a new performance schedule at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Little River Band Will Have You “Reminiscing” At The Club Inside Cannery Casino & Hotel

Australian rock group, Little River Band, will perform at The Club inside Cannery Casino & Hotel on Saturday, August 1 at 8 p.m.

Little River Band was the first Australian band to maintain commercial success in the United States. In 1976, after the release of their self-titled debut album, the long grind of 13 U.S. tours in eight years began. By 1982, Little River Band became the only act to have a top 10 U.S. single for six consecutive years. Headlining their own major shows in America and touring internationally with the likes of the Doobie Brothers, Supertramp, America and the Eagles, was a huge learning curve that honed Little River Band into one of the finest live bands in the world. All-told, Little River Band has notched up eight top 10 singles in the U.S. including “Reminiscing,” “Lady,” “Cool Change,” “Lonesome Loser,” “Take It Easy On Me” and “Help Is On Its Way.”

Following sold-out shows from coast-to-coast earlier this year, the popular alternative rock and pop rock band, The Killers will hit the road again in August in support of its third studio album, Day & Age, released by Island Records. The Killers, who began its career together playing small clubs in Las Vegas, will make a stop at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Saturday, Sept. 19 with a scheduled show time of 8 p.m.

Brandon Flowers (vocals/keyboard), Dave Keuning (guitar), Mark Stoermer (bass) and Ronnie Vannucci (drums) recently presented their newest single, “A Dustland Fairytale,” to fans for the first time on The Late Show with David Letterman. The presentation was unique as they performed with a 20-piece orchestra. The video for the song made its worldwide premiere on iTunes earlier this month.

A number of media outlets have offered rave reviews of the popular band and the tour. The New York Post claimed, “Finally, a superstar band born in this century has emerged” while The Kansas City Star wrote, “…they put on one of the liveliest and most dynamic live shows in the world of pop music.” The online site Spin.com declared, “…the Killers are on the road with what will be remembered as one of the definitive stage shows of the year.”

The Killers will begin the Fall tour in August in Washington, D.C. and will continue in a number of additional prestigious venues throughout the United States. Following a triumphant headlining set at this year’s Coachella festival, The Killers will dazzle festival-goers once again as one of the headliners at the 2009 Lollapalooza event.

Renowned Comedian, Impersonator Dana Carvey Coming To The Orleans Showroom July 24-27

Since bursting onto the national scene on Saturday Night Live in 1986, Dana Carvey has entertained millions with his uncanny impersonations of political leaders, entertainers and celebrities. From July 24-26, Carvey will be bringing his incomparable act to the Orleans Showroom for a three-evening engagement. All shows will begin at 8 p.m.

Carvey’s comedic career dates back to his days as a student at San Francisco State University, where he won San Francisco’s Stand-Up Comedy Competition. But it was NBC’s SNL that made Carvey into a household name. After joining the SNL cast for the 1986-87 season, Carvey gained fame for a wide stable of characters, including “Church Lady,” “Hanz” (of “Hanz & Franz), “Grumpy Old Man,” and Garth Algar, the faithful sidekick of Wayne Campbell on “Wayne’s World.” Carvey was legendary for his impersonations of numerous real-world figures as well, particularly former President George H.W. Bush and former presidential candidate Ross Perot.

In 1992, Carvey teamed up with SNL colleague Mike Myers on Wayne’s World, the movie adaptation of their popular skit. The film was a smash success, grossing more than $160 million, and led to the 1993 sequel, Wayne’s World 2. Carvey would go on to appear in several additional movies, including The Road to Wellville and Clean Slate.

After leaving SNL in 1992, Carvey appeared on a number of television specials. He hosted the 1992 MTV Music Awards, and appeared on several comedy specials, most recently in 2008 on HBO’s Dana Carvey: Squatting Monkeys Tell No Lies.

Carvey was awarded an Emmy in 1993 for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program, and received five other Emmy nominations throughout his career. He was also named Television’s Funniest Supporting Male for 1990-91, and was recognized by Comedy Central as one of the top 100 stand-up acts of all time.

Dive With Sharks At Mandalay Bay Offers Certified Divers Experience Of Lifetime

Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay plunges to new depths with its new Dive with Sharks program for hotel guests of Mandalay Bay and THEhotel. Thrill-seekers will experience a rush of adrenaline while diving side-by-side with dive guides and more than 30 sharks, including sandtiger, white tip and sandbar sharks, in a 1.3-million-gallon exhibit.

Dive with Sharks provides certified divers 18 years of age and older a rare chance to connect with these powerful creatures during an up-close educational program offering a deeper understanding of marine life. Throughout the four-hour experience, participants learn about shark health and behavior as well as Shark Reef Aquarium research projects that aid in the preservation of endangered species. To make the experience more intimate, the program is limited to two participants and one dive per day. Every dive is different as the sharks’ needs change daily.

“We are pleased to introduce the Dive with Sharks experience, which will bring our guests even closer to these magnificent predators,” said Adrienne Rowland, director of Shark Reef Aquarium. “This memorable adventure will appeal to anyone who loves underwater exploration and wants to learn more about these fascinating animals.”

The adventure begins at 3 p.m. when the program facilitator greets participants. During a guided tour of Shark Reef, the facilitator shares intriguing facts about the predator-based aquarium’s inhabitants. Next, participants receive dive and equipment orientation before changing into wetsuits and beginning their submerged journey.

General Curator Jack Jewell said, “The dive sessions we have created are very unique. During dives in the ocean, it is uncertain whether one or more sharks will swim close or appear at all. The Dive with Sharks program guarantees the opportunity to observe many sharks as well as a variety of other creatures including green sea turtles, sawfish and mesmerizing schools of fish.”

In developing this program, Mandalay Bay’s top priority was the safety and health of the animals and participants. A team of dedicated dive guides teach participants various safety procedures before the dive and provide a 2-to-1 guest-to-dive instructor ratio, ensuring personalized attention and safety throughout the dive.

Adam Schaffer, a Dive with Sharks participant, said, “Shark Reef Aquarium’s Dive with Sharks is truly a world-class experience. I felt like I was diving in five different oceans, and there were times I actually forgot I was in an aquarium.”

Hotel guests of Mandalay Bay or THEhotel can book the exclusive tour for $650 for a single diver or $1,000 for two divers booked together. The Dive with Sharks program includes a guided tour of Shark Reef Aquarium, supervised 45-minute dive and a post-dive snack. Shark Reef Aquarium provides all equipment – a wetsuit, protective stainless steel chain maille as well as a mask, fins, tank, buoyancy-control device, regulator, weights and booties.

Additionally, guests receive a Dive with Sharks Certificate of Completion and a video of their dive to commemorate their experience. Participants also are able to bring up to four observers to view the dive from outside the exhibit. Observers enjoy complimentary admission to Shark Reef Aquarium and are welcome to join the introductory exhibit and behind-the-scenes tours.

All dive participants must present a valid certification card from a recognized dive instruction agency such as PADI or NAUI. Dive with Sharks is available four days a week – Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. Dive-certified guests of Mandalay Bay interested in the program may call (702) 632-4555

Plaza Congratulates First Winner Of Summer Of 69: $19,690 Bingo Promotion Payout

Natalie Nunoz, a native Hawaiian and Culinary Arts Instructor, was the first big winner of the Plaza Hotel & Casino’s Summer of 69: $19,690 Bingo Promotion. As part of the Fremont Street Experience’s “Summer of 69: Vegas or Bust” celebration, which began on Memorial Day weekend and continues through Labor Day weekend, the Plaza nearly doubled its regular $10,000 super coverall bingo prize payout to $19,690 every session, every day – by far the largest offered in Las Vegas. Featuring the only live Bingo downtown, the Plaza is already known for having the most liberal bingo coverall in Las Vegas with its regular $10,000 prize payout.

“I look forward to my trip to Las Vegas every year,” says a jubilant Nunoz. “I’ve come to Vegas for 20 years, and I always stay at the Plaza. I love the place. They are spectacular in every way, and they provide the very best service. I’ve stayed on the Strip before, but I will never do that again. I came back to the Plaza.” To people who are trying for the $19,690 bingo prize, which requires that players cover their card in 52 numbers or less, Nunoz says “say your prayers every day.”

Her prayers must be working in her favor because just before Nunoz was preparing to leave town to go back to her military contracted culinary job in Japan, she hit another big win – a $3,500 Money Ball. Nunoz stated that that during her two-week stay at the Plaza, “I played bingo practically every session – unless I was sleeping.” Nunoz said her daughter took her winnings and put it straight into the bank. She said her daughter will play the stock market and invest it for her.

Bingo sessions are held at the Plaza at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. daily.

The Plaza offers an array of innovative table games and slot machines; the hottest show in town – the Rat Pack is Back; free live entertainment right on the casino floor in the Aqua Lounge; the Lucky 7’s Buffet; and a host of other amenities including a roof top swimming pool and tennis courts.
