The Henderson firefighters ate their way to victory this weekend during the Inaugural B3 “Big, Badass Burrito” Eating Challenge between the Las Vegas Police Protective Association (LVPPA) and the Henderson Firefighter’s Benevolent Association at the Sahara Hotel & Casino’s NASCAR Cafe on Saturday, June 20, 2009. The charity “Father’s Day” themed competition was not taken lightly by either side as the heroic eaters competed to finish the monumental, six pound burrito, which is two-feet in length and is smothered with guacamole, sour cream and melted cheese. This burrito is so big, so spectacular; it’s made national news!

Each battling side consisted of three pairs made up of officers or firefighters and their fathers, children or mentees. The teams of two had 45 minutes to decimate as much of their burritos as possible. The total remaining weight of each side’s burritos were added to find the overall winning side. The Henderson Firefighters Benevolent Association prevailed, only leaving 4 lbs of burrito uneaten, while the LVPPA had 5.25 lbs remaining. Both sides were fierce competitors, and the contest was extremely close.

The two branches of emergency services earned a combined $5,500 for the charities for donating a mere 45 minutes of their time. Fifteen percent of all food and beverage purchased at the NASCAR Café during the event and on Father’s Day were equally divided between the LVPPA Metro Charities, Inc. and the Henderson Firefighter’s Benevolent Association. In addition, all proceeds from a silent auction of Father’s Day-themed gift baskets and other fantastic items were equally divided between the charities, making for a successful event.

In addition to the cash donation and the ultimate bragging rights, the Henderson Firefighter’s Benevolent Association received a trophy, winner’s T-shirts and their photo on the NASCAR Café’s “Winner Wall.” The LVPPA team members were great sports when the time came to wear pink “Certified Weenie” T-shirts and be photographed in front of the restaurant’s “Weenie Wall of Shame.” This burrito eating contest was the first fundraising event held by the LVPPA to kick-off its newly formed non-profit organization – LVPPA Metro Charities, Inc. The Sahara Hotel & Casino was exceptionally pleased and proud to host the event and welcomes other organizations in search of a friendly finger-licking competition.

Rappers Too Short and Xzibit partied at a VIP table at Moon Nightclub inside Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas Tuesday night (6.16.09).   Dressed casually in jeans t-shirts, the two were joined by about ten others.  They were seen dancing to the music and enjoying the atmosphere, leaving the club around 3 a.m.

Located at Wynn, Daniel Boulud Brasserie is launching a series of Beer Pairing Dinners in late June which I thought may be of interest to you. Beer-pairing dinners are growing in popularity among those who appreciate fine food and spirits, and Daniel Boulud Brasserie is leading the pack with this fun, insightful look at how malts and hops combine with the fresh flavors of his signature Provencal cuisine.

This debut event, to be co-hosted by Executive Chef Wesley Holton, Sur Lucero, Wine Manager for DB Brasserie and Michael Smith of Unibroue Brewery, will offer up a luscious menu that kicks off with a reception that pairs Boulud’s famed charcuterie offerings with Unibroue’s Blanche de Chambly, a white ale with an alluring golden color and a subtle bouquet of spice and citrus notes. The dinner that follows ranges from tantalizing roasted asparagus salad and swordfish “en Mouclade” (the latter paired with Unibroue’s strong triple-style golden ale La Fin Du Monde), on through to Boulud’s succulent slow-roasted pork belly, served with Anchor Spring Bock of San Francisco and Unibroue’s Maudite, a strong amber-red ale from Quebec. Even the dessert, a warm tarte au chocolat, will be served with beer-butter-pecan ice cream and Unibroue’s Trois Pistoles, a strong dark ale topped with a rich foam mousse.

Daniel Boulud Brasserie will host its first-ever beer pairing dinner on Tuesday, June 23rd. The four-course dinner is prix fixe at $85 per person, inclusive of tax and tip. Hollywood recording artist and Disney Channel star Demi Lovato kicks off her North American headline tour this summer and will make a stop at the Orleans Arena on July 18 with American Idol finalist, David Archuleta.

The past year has been a whirlwind for Lovato, starting in June with the debut of her first Disney Channel Original Movie, Camp Rock, followed by the No. 2 debut of her first CD, “Don’t Forget,” a national tour, as well as her starring role in the hit Disney Channel series, Sonny with a Chance. Lovato also costars with Selena Gomez in the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie Princess Protection Program.

Lovato recently released a deluxe edition of “Don’t Forget,” which includes two new bonus songs and a DVD of music videos, live footage and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. Lovato performed on the hit ABC show Dancing with the Stars, and also performed her newest single “Don’t Forget” on Ellen. She has sold more than 1.1 million digital downloads of her first three singles, “Get Back,” “La La Land” and “Don’t Forget.” The multi-talented Lovato is also working on new material for her sophomore solo album due in July.

David Archuleta, the runner-up on the 7th season of American Idol, hails from Murray, Utah, a town just outside Salt Lake City. He came to national attention and captured the hearts and imagination of a nation with several show-stopping performances on American Idol. David Archuleta’s eponymous debut has been certified gold with over 500,000 albums sold since its November 2008 release.

In August 2009, legendary Hollywood hotspot, Pink’s Hot Dogs will open a new location in Las Vegas. Pink’s Hot Dogs Las Vegas will be located within Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, at the south end of the property and directly accessible to foot traffic walking along Las Vegas Blvd.

Pink’s Hot Dogs Las Vegas will be holding a job fair in July and is expecting to hire between 30 to 35 people for positions that will range from bartenders to line cooks and managers.

The Sahara Hotel & Casino’s NASCAR Café is hosting an eating contest of enormous proportions between local police and firefighters to benefit two fantastic charities on Saturday, June 20 at noon. Team members from both the Las Vegas Police Protective Association (to benefit the non-profit organization LVPPA Metro Charities, Inc.) and the Henderson Firefighter’s Benevolent Association (a non-profit organization) will compete to finish the NASCAR Café’s new B3 “Big, Badass Burrito,” a monumental six pound concoction, which is two-feet in length and is smothered with guacamole, sour cream and melted cheese. The Las Vegas Police Protective Association Metro, Inc. (LVPPA) was incorporated in 1947 to support law enforcement officers and represents its members through contract negotiations, processing grievances, and legal representations. The Association represents over 2500 rank and file Police and Corrections Officers that are employed by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Marshals employed by the City of Las Vegas. The LVPPA is participating in the eating contest to benefit the LVPPA Metro Charities, Inc.

The LVPPA Metro Charities, Inc. is a nonprofit organization recently created as a charity organization that will focus on providing benefits to fallen officers and their families. The organization received the IRS 501(c)(3) designation in early of 2009. This designation allows an organization’s donors to receive a tax deduction. The organization will primarily focus on providing benefits to the families, especially children, of officers who are killed in the line of duty such as the recent tragedy with Officer James Manor.

The Henderson Firefighter’s Benevolent Association is a non-profit organization that was formed in 2006. Its primary objective and purpose is to provide charitable assistance to its members, disabled and retired personnel, along with their dependents and their survivors as needed. Further, the Association provides charitable assistance to the public who also demonstrates needs.
