Mötley Crüe To Pass The Joint Into A New Era At The Hard Rock

As the saying goes, “as one door closes, another one opens.” The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas will close its legendary concert venue, The Joint, on February 7, 2009 to make way for a brand new expanded and state-of-the-art Joint. As part of their Saints of Los Angeles 2009 Tour, Mötley Crüe will help close The Joint doors in true rock ‘n’ roll fashion with two closing weekend performances scheduled for February 6 and 7.

Mötley Crüe Tickets

Scheduled to open April 2009, the new Joint will be twice the size, feature an innovative sound and lighting system, and offer seven premiere VIP hospitality suites, making the new Joint the most sophisticated, intimate and authentic venue in Las Vegas for artists and fans.

“The Joint has played host to some of the world’s greatest rock bands over the years and Mötley Crüe is honored to be closing ‘The Joint’ down,” said Tommy Lee, Mötley Crüe drummer. “We hope to bring the house down in true Crüe-style.”

The original Joint was opened in February of 1995 and was the first rock venue in Las Vegas to be built at a high-end boutique property. At the time, it helped establish national credibility for Las Vegas as a legitimate tour stop by luring top-notch talent who had never played in the market before. The Joint also helped introduce a new culture of tourists and locals to first-rate concerts in Las Vegas. As a result, other casino hotels quickly followed suit by renovating and upgrading their facilities. AEG Live was contracted in February 2007 as the exclusive promoter and booking agent for The Joint and will continue in that capacity in the new venue.

“As we prepare to close the doors to Las Vegas’ first historic rock venue, we look forward to writing a new chapter in rock ‘n’ roll history with the opening of the new Joint,” said Randy Kwasniewski, President and COO of Morgans Hotel Group Las Vegas and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. “From The Rolling Stones to Foo Fighters, The Joint has played host to the world’s greatest artists and bands and will be forever remembered as a venue that revolutionized the Las Vegas music scene.”

The Joint’s $60 million project is part of the widely-publicized $800 million expansion the Hard Rock broke ground on in 2007; slated for completion in late 2009. The expansion will include the addition of approximately 860 guest rooms, including an all-suite 15-story south tower, a new 17-story north tower, approximately 60,000 square feet of meeting and convention space, and approximately 30,000 square feet of casino space. In addition, the project includes the expansion of the Hard Rock’s award-winning pool, several new restaurants and bars, a new nightclub, multiple new retail outlets, as well as a new spa and health club. As part of the project, the Hard Rock’s existing suites and common areas will be renovated to revitalize the property.

The trendsetting new concert venue will unveil a number of “new” features when it celebrates its grand opening in the Spring of 2009 including:

* Seven high-end, VIP luxury suites
* Seated and general admission capacities will be doubled
* 700+ fixed stadium-style seats and top-notch green and production rooms
* WiFi access throughout the venue and full blogging station for press covering events and shows
* State-of-the-art light and sound including a D&B Audiotechnik, two full flown stacks, a center cluster for fills, stage fills and over 36 delay speakers through the back of the venue, bar areas, lobby and restrooms
* Ability to transform venue to accommodate boxing, wrestling, mixed martial arts events, corporate functions and trade shows, as well as red carpet movie premieres and advanced screenings

“The Joint has been widely known as the country’s preeminent rock and roll venue and has been a must play for both established and up-and-coming artists,” said John Meglen, Co-CEO AEG Live/Concerts West. “AEG Live looks forward to continuing that tradition by bringing the world’s most well-known musicians to the new Joint, a completely new, unparalleled entertainment experience that fans and artists have come to expect from live entertainment.”

A weekend-long closing celebration is scheduled at The Joint starting Friday, February 6 with a much-anticipated performance by legendary rockers, Mötley Crüe. Mötley Crüe recently returned to the charts with Saints of Los Angeles, their first studio album with the original lineup – Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, Tommy Lee and Vince Neil – in over a decade and the ninth studio album in their career.

Simon Says . . . Brunch – Simon at Palms Place Launches Decadent, Yet Casual Sunday Brunch

On New Year’s Day, Simon at Palms Place invites guests to dine in their PJ’s. The new restaurant from Kerry Simon, Elizabeth Blau and George Maloof, launches a whimsical Sunday brunch in an amazing setting unlike any other in Las Vegas. Rock-n-roll chef Kerry Simon adds his signature flair and humor to traditional brunch items, creating a menu that is both delicious and memorable. Guests can sit in the main dining area with floor to ceiling views of the Palms Place pool, or poolside on the Simon patio, while they are attended to by pajama-clad wait staff. Want more fries? Simply select the appropriate sign at your table to request “Frites Please” or “More Beignets.” Multiple televisions throughout the restaurant broadcast football games and cartoons, and pajamas are the encouraged attire.

The $38 per-person menu is served each Sunday after New Year’s from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and consists of enticing buffet stations including a fun “White Trash” table, Sushi and Candy Bar, a variety of à la carte items and a Bloody Mary bar. The diverse brunch items offer something for every craving, and the $12 menu for those under age 12 makes Simon at Palms Place the ideal family brunch destination.

To start the meal, guests receive warm beignets and can then choose from buffet stations or à la carte menu items. The Panini and Thin Things Station offers exotic grilled cheese sandwiches such as brie & honeycomb and a selection of cheese and charcuterie. Smoothies and fruit sushi are available at the Fresh Fruits Station, where all the large fruit is peeled, seeded and sliced to order. Here, guests will also find a fresh salad bar where they order by checking off ingredients on a card to create a custom salad that is delivered to the table. At the Sushi Station, guests can select assorted sushi, sashimi and rolls. The “White Trash” Station has such guilty pleasures as ambrosia salad, fried chicken in a basket with waffles, pigs in a blanket and deviled eggs.

À la carte dishes include Simon French toast on frosted flake crusted brioche and breakfast sliders on mini bagels with crisp bacon and American cheese. Omelets and eggs are made to order with a selection of fresh seasonal ingredients and a variety of sides such as hash browns, biscuits & gravy and creamed spinach.

In addition to brunch beverage staples like bellinis and mimosas, guests can create their own Bloody Mary at the Refreshing Beverage Station where they will find different vodkas, several juices ranging from sweet to spicy, chopped cilantro, parsley, an assortment of vegetable garnish and glass rimming options such as crumbs, salts and spice blends. For those looking for a healthier option or a quick hangover cure, the Antioxidant Station offers a “flight” of antioxidant juices, whole-wheat blueberry muffins and high antioxidant fruits and vegetables.

Brunch at Simon would not be complete without an elaborate Candy Bar Station where guests can find vintage lunch boxes and large glass jars filled with candies. Upon finishing, each table receives the chef’s signature junk food dessert platter, which includes cotton candy, snowballs, cupcakes and rice krispie and fruit loop treats.

Chef Simon incorporates a sense of adventure and whimsy into all of his restaurants, and Simon at Palms Place’s new brunch is a perfect reflection of the chef’s spirit and humor. Simon at Palms Place is located at Palms Place Hotel & Spa at Palms Las Vegas, 4381 West Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, NV 89103.

Sushi+Sake 101 – Get Schooled In The Fine Art Of Maki-Making And Sake Tasting At Sushisamba Strip

Fish, foodies and the finest Japanese sake collide at SUSHISAMBA strip’s debut of SUSHI+SAKE101 – a deliciously interactive two-hour teaching and tasting event starting Wednesday, January 14, 2009.

Even though these one-of-a-kind classes don’t begin until the new year, with the holiday season in full swing – there’s no better time to make a purchase. Certificates for SUSHI and SAKE 101, perfect for the aspiring chef, passionate gourmand or friend who has everything, are currently available at the all-new www.sushisamba.com.

Made popular at several SUSHISAMBA locations across the country, SUSHI+SAKE101 introduces guests to the history and traditions of sushi and sake, the art of sushi making and offers in-depth instruction about these two worldly traditions from resident experts.  Class participants will learn what it takes to become a “master sushi chef,” while sipping sake alongside a delectable five-course meal that includes sashimi, tempura, edamame and sushi rolls they help prepare. For the Vegas debut, SUSHISAMBA strip will up the ante (so to speak), unveiling its top talent to lead their Wednesday class: Sushi Chef Koji Kagawa and Las Vegas’ only female master sake sommelier, Tiffany Dawn Soto.

For the first half of class, sommelier Soto will guide pupils through the exotic world of sake tasting, introducing the traditions and history of sake while uncovering misconceptions about this increasingly popular Japanese alcohol distilled from a special kind of rice.  From aromatic to aged to sparkling, guests will be exposed to new and diverse prefectures of sake every week – be it “sweet and spicy” or “rich and round with a sweet caramel finish.”  Choosing from more than 130 different sakes in the award-winning SUSHISAMBA collection— Las Vegas’ largest — Soto will present guests with five flights in total, paired off with appetizing (and signature) selections from the SUSHISAMBA strip menu.

In the latter half of class, guests will get schooled on the schools of fish inside the SUSHISAMBA strip sushi bar.  They will learn the simplified approach to cutting raw fish; how to identify what is “sushi-grade” and will even construct a sushi roll of their choice.  All told, there will be enough “do-it-yourself” instruction for any aspiring at-home sushi chef to feel confident, inspired and ready to put their knowledge to the test.

Along these lines, SUSHI+SAKE 101 students will also be given an informative take-away booklet with restaurant recipes, a glossary of terms and a summation of what they learned in class.

Event Details:

$85 per person

Class starts at 6:30 p.m., concluding at 8:30 p.m.

Begins Wednesday, January 14, 2009 and will take place every second Wednesday of the following months

Class size limited to 25 people

SUSHI+SAKE101 takes place within the intimate confines of SUGARCANE, SUSHISAMBA strip’s sexy space in back, where graffiti-lined walls from renowned Brazilian street artist, Felipe “Flip” Yung, make this one-of-a-kind setting an optimal “classroom” to host the fun, informative interaction of SUSHI+SAKE101.

Whether you are hungry for knowledge or just a good meal, reserve your spot now at SUSHI+SAKE 101.

Located inside The Shoppes at The Palazzo, SUSHISAMBA strip offers inventive fare uniting bold Brazilian flavors, precise Japanese technique and exquisite Peruvian culinary traditions on one plate.  In addition to the Las Vegas location, SUSHISAMBA also has outposts in New York, Chicago, Miami and Tel Aviv.  Reservations can be made by calling (702) 607-0700 and all major credit cards are accepted.  For more information, visit www.sushisamba.com.

Hooters Doubles The Mentalist Show Schedule – Gerry McCambridge Will Now Perform At 7 & 9 p.m. 7 Nights A Week

Gerry McCambridge, aka “The Mentalist” will be headlining in the Night Owl Showroom at Hooters Casino Hotel at 7 & 9 p.m., 7 nights a week until January 4th.

The Mentalist Tickets

Since moving to Las Vegas three years ago, Gerry has been a strip headliner with over 650 Las Vegas performances to his credit. He was a headliner at the Legendary Stardust until the casino closed for implosion. Gerry then started performing at Hooters Casino Hotel in June 2007 with a 2 night a week schedule filling in when comic Bobby Slayton’s 7 & 9 p.m. show was dark. Due to overwhelming ticket demand for Gerry’s show, Hooters added a 3rd night, 4th night, 5th night and eventually a 6th night to Gerry’s performing schedule making him a full-time headliner in the Hooters Casino Hotel Night Owl Showroom.

Hooters has now doubled his one show a night schedule to two shows a night, and adding a 7th night during the holiday season.

About Gerry McCambridge

New York born and raised, Gerry McCambridge started his career as a magician at the early age of eight, when he received a magic kit as a holiday gift. From that point on, he pursued his love for magic, comedy and performing live, and eventually defined himself as “the mentalist” — an entertainer who, among other things, showcases his ability to screw with people’s minds. A regular headliner at Las Vegas’ Hooters Casino Hotel, McCambridge now performs there seven nights a week. In addition to recently competing on NBC’s reality show, “Phenomenon,” McCambridge is the star and executive-producer of the hit TV show “The Mentalist.”

He also has appeared on countless talk shows, including “Late Night With David Letterman,” “The Today Show” and “The Best Damn Sports Show Period.” In 2005 he was awarded “Mentalist of the Year” by the Psychic Entertainers Association. The same year Gerry also won “Best Lounge Act” by the Las Vegas Review Journal’s readers’ poll. In 2007 Gerry was nominated “Best Magician” in Las Vegas by the Las Vegas Review Journal’s readers’ poll. In 2008 he won the prestigious “Merlin” award for “Mentalist of the Decade” from the International Magicians Society.

His other known hits include “Granada” and “Tico Tico.” The consummate performer, Contino appeared on “The Ed Sullivan Show” for a record 48 times.

All-around entertainer Frankie Randall is a vocalist, classical and jazz pianist, arranger, conductor and composer. Randall became a “professional” musician at the age of 13, which led to a booking at the popular New York hot spot Jilly’s, where he met Frank Sinatra. Ol’ Blue Eyes himself helped Randall obtain a recording contract with RCA, which led to numerous television appearances, including a regular role on “The Dean Martin Summer Show.”

Musician and comedian Pete Barbutti toured the country, settling in Chicago, then Las Vegas, where he quickly became a favorite on the Las Vegas strip. After two years in Las Vegas, Barbutti started working as a standup comic in Washington. Talk show host Steve Allen saw a locally produced videotape of Barbutti and booked him as a regular on his popular late night television show. Barbutti has received numerous awards, including “Entertainer of the Year” honors in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, an “Artistic Achievement Award” from the American Federation of Musicians and a “Most Valuable Player Award” from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).

Best known as Frank Sinatra’s musical director and pianist, Vincent Falcone has also been a pianist and conductor for some of the country’s top leading performers. He has worked with Robert Goulet, Andy Williams, Connie Francis, Paul Anka, Jack Jones, Jerry Lewis, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme and Tony Bennett, among others.
